Lawler’s title fight postponed
When EliteXC first announced that Murilo “Ninja” Rua had not been granted a license for his proposed bout this Friday against Joey Villasenor for the vacant EliteXC middleweight title, the first person I thought of was Robbie Lawler.
Lawler is on a three fight win streak and defeated Villasenor at Pride 32 in Las Vegas. However, there are not one, but two reasons why he was never a candidate.
First, he was supposed to defend his ICON Sport middleweight title against Kala Kolohe Hose in Hawaii.
Second, he has a separated shoulder and will need at least a month to recover.
As such, his June 30 title fight has been postponed until September 15.
As for Villasenor and his fight this Friday, he’ll be fighting Niko Vitale in a non-title bout.
