The MMA news web site GracieFighter.com, which reported last night that Phil Baroni’s spot in Friday’s main event against Frank Shamrock is in jeopardy, has removed the original report.
The original report said that the California State Athletic Commission was reviewing Baroni’s license after receiving a FAX from the UFC containing results of an old Baroni MRI following his fight against Pete Sell in 2005.
As of 8:00 a.m. ET this morning, the Baroni headline apparently had been changed “Strikeforce Card” under the site’s “Recent News” area. Underneath the headline was text that read “REMOVED BY REQUEST.” If you click on the link, it takes you to a page with all their recent news stories with the Baroni story having completely vanished.
I don’t like to be critical of other journalists in public, but what GracieFighter.com is unacceptable. If you report a story, you should have all your facts straight. Mistakes happen and if a retraction has to be issued then you still don’t erase all history of the original story. The site has removed the original story and is making no acknowledgment that it has ever existed.
