I reported last week that Joe Riggs will be returning to action on July 21 for a promotion called the Hardcore Fighting Championships. An anonymous source has informed FiveOuncesOfPain.com that Riggs is still contracted to the WEC and will be fighting for the promotion in the future. The idea is for Riggs to fight outside of the WEC in a “tuneup” match before returning. He’s been sidelined for the past few months due to back problems, which caused his debut for the WEC against Hiromitsu Miura to be canceled.
Also, an unnamed source has informed FiveOuncesOfPain.com that Jason “Mayhem” Miller will be fighting for the WEC in the near future. Miller is recovering from a hand injury that he sustained in his last fight against Miura. The September 5 card on Versus has been talked about a possible return date but it’s uncertain whether he’ll be fully recovered in time. If he can’t fight on 9/5, he’ll definitely fight for the WEC before the year is over.
The WEC’s next card is scheduled for August 5 on Versus with a double main event of Carlos Condit vs. Brock Larson for the WEC welterweight title and Paulo Filho making his U.S. debut against Joe Doerksen.
