MMAWeekly.com: Rory Markham out of IFL finals

August 15, 2007 by Sam Caplan

MMAWeekly.com is reporting that welterweight Rory Markham will not be available for the Quad Cities Silverbacks when they face the New York Pitbulls during the IFL finals on September 20 in Hollywood, Fla.

Markham injured his hand during his TKO victory over Chris Clements of the LA Anacondas during the semifinals on August 2 in East Rutherford, NJ.

He had been slated to fight Delson Heleno at the finals but his injury has sent head coach Pat Miletich scrambling for a replacement. According to the article, all of Miletich’s in-house welterweights are committed to other fights right now and he may need to go outside MFS to find a fill-in just like he did when Gerald Harris was selected to replace Ryan McGivern during the semifinals.

The Markham injury could have huge repercussions for the Silverbacks if Miletich is unable to secure a top-flight replacement. Heleno is one of the best welterweights in the IFL and Markham would have given him a run for his money. A cake-walk opponent for Heleno could put Miletich’s team in the hole before the finals even start.
