Report: Frank Mir’s agent wants Cheick Kongo

September 19, 2007 by Sam Caplan

Yesterday TAGG Radio reported that Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira’s next opponent will be Frank Mir.

However, after talking with the agent for Mir, Dean Albrecht, MMAjunkie.com has learned that a match against Nogueira is not a done deal. In fact, Mir’s camp appears to be campaigning for a match vs. Cheick Kongo.

Let’s see… Mir vs. Antoni Hardonk and now he wants Kongo? Notice the trend of guys who have terrible takedown defenses? It’s a smart strategy but a very transparent one.

Not only terrible takedown defenses but a pretty bad ground game in the case of Kongo. I will give him credit it looked a lot better against Cro Cop but put him in there with a guy like Mir? I think Mir wins this one by submission.

Albrecht gave me the same feeling in that they really want to fight Kongo and are essentially indifferent to a fight against Nog.

Mir’s camp also wants a dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Let’s hope Mir doesn’t gas while wolfing those down.

Mir won’t even come close to bringing Kongo down, he is a shell of the fighter he used to be and will leave the cage a bloody mess.
