Garcia responded to a post on the forum that claimed Trigg has signed with the WEC and will fight current WEC middleweight champion Paulo Filho for the middleweight title in December.
While reports that a deal has been consummated between Trigg and the WEC appear premature, there appears to be validity to the current set of rumors, according to Garcia’s response.
Trigg has publicly expressed an interest in returning the UFC but sources have indicated in the past that Zuffa management had soured on Trigg due to his anti-UFC commentary during PRIDE telecasts on Fox Sports Net. Trigg apparently had met with Zuffa officials to explain he was only following the direction of his producers and that he was simply doing his job. Initially, Zuffa officials weren’t sympathetic but apparently their feelings have changed.
We’ll continue to track this story in hopes of reporting whether Trigg has finalized a contract with the WEC. It’s likely that the former UFC welterweight title contender will address these rumors during Monday’s broadcast of TAGG Radio at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT.
