Exclusive: Shad Lierley re-signs with the IFL for 2008

In case you missed it, I wanted to give everyone a head’s up on an exclusive I had early this morning on my ProElite.com blog and re-post it here on 5 OZ. …

A source close to the IFL has informed ProElite.com that lightweight fighter Shad Lierley has re-signed with the league for the 2008 season.

Lierley, who fights for Maurice Smith’s Seattle Tigersharks, came out of nowhere to post a strong 2-1 record during the IFL regular season as a rookie in MMA this year.

His lone loss came against Chris Horodecki in a unanimous decision on June 1 at an IFL event in Everett, Wash. Many consider the fight between the two to be the greatest in the league’s brief history.

A former standout wrestler while at New York University, Lierley has turned heads with improved striking and will be one of the favorites to qualify for the league’s World Grand Prix at 155 pounds next season.

I think that is a good move on both sides there. IFL needs to try and keep as many guys as they can after the Rothwell/Whitehead issue. And Lierley is in the perfect spot for him to continue developing his skills.

i saw the lierley-horodecki fight live and it was absolutely, insanely wonderful. lierley has so much heart, and that means a lot to me.

glad to see he’s signing again – would love to see a rematch between these two next season (since it won’t happen in the grand prix).
