Cung Le to face Sam Morgan in November

MMAjunkie.com is reporting that Cung Le (4-0) will be taking on former Ultimate Fighter 2 cast member, and former UFC welterweight fighter, Sam Morgan (18-8) on the Nov.16 Strikeforce card.Cung Le

This will fight will add to an historical card that will also feature the first 4-man tournament sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission and Paul Buentello vs. Alistair Overeem for the Strikeforce Heavyweight title.

After failing to sign Jeremy Jackson to fight Le, Strikeforce put together the fight with Morgan, who is coming back from over a year lay off after losing a lopsided unanimous decision to Forrest Petz at Ultimate Fight Night 6.

It is doubtful that Morgan will attempt to stand with Le and will probably attempt to utilize his submission game, which he can do.

But it is even more doubtful that many fans will see Morgan as a legitimate gauge of Le’s skills.

When is Cung gonna fight someone legitimate? I understand he’s still new with just a 4-0 record but really. These fights are more simple displays for Cung and not tough fights.

I agree with you there, for people making him out to be so great he really hasn’t fought anyone to really test him.

He’s exciting and people love good leg kicks. These guys will squeeze every fight they can out of him while trying to give match ups he can win.

Come on! Cung needs to fight Frank!!!!

Or at least someone who will be able to test him.

To be fair though Cung only has 4 fights in mma. To match him up with a guy that has 40 fights isn’t really fair either. I do want to see the man challenged though.

My guess – Morgan mysteriously stands for the entire match until getting knocked out.

cung le is one of the most exciting new fighters to start getting recognized, im not sayin hes the best, but dam i love to watch that guy fight, he brings the kung fu movie moves to the mma cage. strikeforce is broadcasted on showtime usually, dunno if thier gonna go the ppv route eventually. but if you have showtime in hd its better quality than the usual ppvs with exception to ufc hd ppvs, those rock.

Don’t worry jaydog, I can’t tell either. Certainly someone will show it online at the least?

Of f’n course the Cung Le fight will be shown, are you kidding me?

And good for him not fighting Frank right now, as Frank said he’d beat him and kill all his hype and marketability that he has right now. Frank, of course, is 100% correct. Frank would take him down and late first or 2nd, of how he would want to finish.

Strikeforce is starting to piss me off. Cung needs to pack his bags and go anywhere else. Not knocking Sam Morgan but why did Strikeforce take so long lining up a fighter for him this time around?

They should already be lining up Cung’s next fight and marketing it. Seeing “Cung Le vs. TBA” all the way up until 12 days before the actual fight is a joke. Strikeforce’s website doesn’t even have the news yet.

Well I think this is going to be a ground game test for Cung Le. I think that he is going to be able to showcase his ground game during this bout.

Lets hope for a great fight.

“…why did Strikeforce take so long lining up a fighter for him this time around?”

It’s a delicate problem for his handlers – they have to find:

    1. Someone folks will recognize
    2. Someone who has a financial need
    3. Someone who will agree to a standup battle

Regardless of what is reported to the AC, Sam will probably end up making more money for the fight than Cung Le.

“3. Someone who will agree to a standup battle”

I don’t know where you got that information at…but I don’t think that a fight contracts states that the 2 fighters have an agreement to not take the fight to the ground.

They might as well just kickbox. I think people will see that Cung Le is able to fight on the ground.

Cung Le wants to be in movies. That means that he needs to keep from getting his face beaten on and preserve some of the mystique of his martial arts skills. I don’t think he’s motivated to be the best by beating the best. And, because of his acting aspirations, he won’t be able to go to the UFC or his agent will get “bitch-slapped” by Dana White. Seriously though. Why should Le make small money fighting for real when he can make big money in choreographed and edited highlight reels against fictitious foes set against dubious drama? (this coming from martial arts movie buff)

i saw on the website that its presented by bodog fights which means it most likely wont be on showtime, i checked satellite websites and didnt see any listing for a ppv and this is right around the corner. be cool if this is a free webcast like the playboy mansion event but id like to see this in decent quality preferably for free, 10 days away you think by now they would have found a broadcaster.

I think Cung Le is the most exciting fighter to watch and with lots of skills,
so why would he want to fight on the ground if he doesn’t have to…he should be careful to give himeself enough time between fights as others are just to greed on the money and jump right back to the ring and not given themselves enough time to recup.
