Sean Salmon suffers seizure after knockout

Courtesy of Sherdog:

Sherdog.com editor Josh Gross reports that Salmon has been transported to Valley Medical. According to California State Athletic Commission Executive Officer Armando Garcia, Salmon suffered seizure in the ring. Garcia also stated that Salmon’s career is in jeopardy.

This knockout and its after effects were eerily similar to the one that he suffered against Rashad Evans. Just absolutely eerie seeing Salmon laid out like that again. Let’s all hope that Salmon is okay.

Sean needs to chill for a little while. 9th fight already this year and has Miller coming up. he was crazy to take this fight He just kissed that one goodbye. Beating Miller could have maybe gotten him a contract extension in the UFC after being 0-2.

Sean Salmon suffers seizure in ring after 24 second KO

MMAjunkie.com has spoken to California State Athletic Commission Executive Officer Armando Garcia. Garcia told MMAjunkie.com that Sean Salmon suffered a seizure in the ring and it has the medical staff incredibly concerned. Garcia told MMAjunkie.com that it is too early to determine if the seizure is career-threating or not, and he will have an update for us.

    steve24,

What do you mean he didn’t suffer a seizure? I think I’ll take Armando Garcia’s word for it. I know that’s a dangerous prospect, but I doubt he would lie about something like this.

Listening to Beatdown on Sherdog right now, Josh Gross is sticking by his report that Garcia said Salmon’s career could be in jeopardy while Junkie is saying that Armando Garcia said it was too early to determine. Wonder which is right?

Either way, this is the second serious medical problem for a fighter in the last week or so. I don’t think we’ll like the way this plays out in the media.

Salmon’s brother just posted on the UG and said that he did not suffer a seizure. Garcia was talking out of his ass like usual. Pretty silly too state he suffered a seizure without knowing 100% for sure. Garcia doesn’t know his head from his ass.

I dunno if any of you have ever been knocked out, but I have, and it’s common to suffer seizure-like symptoms during and after, including extreme muscle tension, clenching, loss of consciousness/memory, dizziness, twitching, etc.
Until we see a more official report I’m inclined to think this is hysteria.

Brain trauma is cumulative. Past traumas show up as recognizable patterns on EEG’s.
Trust me, I was part of an NIH study. They had plenty to look at. (Boxing, skateboarding, motocross, snowboarding)

One of the most dangerous idiotic things you can do (or frequently a coach) is allow yourself to be exposed to even a mild shock or concussive event after you’ve been RECENTLY concussed. Think football players getting their “bell rung” then going back out after the “cobwebs” clear- or even next game sometimes. It’s like getting tagged over your eye and it starts to swell- but isn’t cut- abraded but not cut. Then bang – it gets hit again- and then it does bleed. If that happens to your brain you’re a dead man in all but the most lucky of cases.
Think about guys with great chins that finally get KO’ed, after that 1st time they always seem to be more vulnerable.
Just like any other injury the more time you give it to heal the better chance you have of no ill effects later. But just like the eye example, if you end up with scar tissue over that eye, even if your fully healed, that area is gonna cut more easily next time, but you don’t have a cut man for your brain. If tests show “scar tissue” in a fighters scans they’re done.

I hope Sean is OK. I hope he fully recovers and takes a lot of time off if they clear him to fight again.

Adam, it’s just that Sherdog and Garcia need to relax creating drama. This went a little too far.

seizure or not…. dude was not looking good laying in the cage.
Salmon is starting a highlight reel of nasty knock outs, the only problem he is the one getting KOed

Hang Em’ Up Sean…. Life is to short
