Tim Kennedy to fight Jason “Mayhem” Miller at HDNet Fights (5 Oz. EXCLUSIVE)

FiveOuncesofPain.com (www.fiveouncesofpain.com) has learned from a source close to the situation that IFL fighter and active Army Ranger Tim Kennedy has accepted a fight against Jason “Mayhem” Miller at Mark Cuban’s HDNet Fights card on December 15th. Kennedy will be replacing Sean Salmon, who was viciously knocked out last weekend during Strikeforce’s middleweight tournament.

Kennedy is 8-1 in his mixed martial arts career with a decision victory over “Mayhem” Miller back in 2003. In addition to taking this fight with Miller, Kennedy will also be competing in the IFL World Grand Prix two weeks later on December 29th.

This is a tough fight for both guys and Kennedy is a much better opponent for Miller than Salmon would have been. This has the makings of an excellent fight.

Yeah, I think Sean Salmon has really shot himself in the foot by screwing over HDNet twice. He claimed to not have exclusivity, but they had some agreement about not fighting up to a month before hand. I think if Salmon does return, he really needs to talk things over with or get new management, he’s just making very bad career decisions. Needless to say, he messed up big. Quality of Opponent > Quantity of Opponents in the fight game.

I believe Salmon is prevented from fighting due to medical suspensions issued by the California State Athletic Commission but I could be wrong.

More importantly, common sense should dictate that he take a break in his fighting. Sean has been at the wrong end of a couple of vicious KO’s (not to mention a couple of RNC’s) in his short career and I do not see much evolution in his fight game. The thought of him stepping into the cage with a fighter (Mayhem) that is arguably more skilled than the opponent he faced at Strikeforce is a scary proposition.

In the interest of his own personal well-being, Sean needs to seriously evaluate whether he should be fighting for a living. Although he has fared well at some of the lesser regional fighting promotions, he is not ready for prime time in my opinion. There is no shame in realizing that his skill set just does not allow him to contend at the highest levels. Additional training might help him fend off the rear nakeds but if your hands aren’t fast enough to block strikes, I don’t know if they ever will be (regardless of the time one puts in at the dojo). Just my 2 cents.
