Report: Josh Koscheck to return at UFC 82
MMA Mania is reporting that Josh Koscheck will make his return to the Octagon at UFC 82 in March:
Welterweight contender Josh Koscheck (9-2) will return to action at UFC 82 at the Nationwide Arena on March 1, joining American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) teammate Jon Fitch on the Columbus, Ohio, fight card.
Opponents have been discussed to face the former NCAA Division I wrestling champion, but no bout agreements have been signed at this time.
Hopefully Koscheck has learned from his fight with GSP that you can’t simply just get by on your wrestling and your athleticism. Koscheck is one of the best wrestlers in all of MMA, but that alone doesn’t make him championship material. If he has continued to work on his all-around game, I am happy to see him return to the Octagon.
The report also goes on to say that this is Koscheck’s last fight on the contract he signed right after the first season of The Ultimate Fighter. I’m sure Kos will see some nice dollar signs thrown his way because he’s a homegrown product for the UFC and a well known name.

I think a real good fight for Kos to have would be against Josh Burkman. I don’t know when he is scheduled to fight next, but with Burkman coming off his loss to karo it could be a marketable fight for both

Man, UFC is letting all these guys take extended vacations and it’s getting ridiculous. Why is everyone sitting out for seven months now? Thiago and Anderson Silva, Florian, Fitch, Machida, Huerta, these guys are 2007 MVPs just for fighting more than twice this year.

Give Kos a tune up fight perhaps, then throw him in against Fitch. Between those two we can find out who’s the most boring. Then the winner can fight Karo for a title shot.

Anton,
Fitch and Kos won’t fight each other anytime soon. They’re good friends and they train together at AKA.

C’mon Adam, give it up….
“..Koscheck is one of the best wrestlers in all of MMA..”
Is that why he got manhandled by GSP the whole fight? If he wasn’t holding onto his shorts, it would have a kimura tap in the second round. Dude may have been a good wrestler in college against college kids, now he’s fighting men and he’s showing how weak he is.
Kos is a middle of the pack, lay and prayer like “Sugar”. Put him in against Karo, watch him get destroyed.

Gabber,
Kos is a fantastic wrestler and so is GSP. Let’s leave it at that.

Booo, I wanted at least some argument on this boring day on the MMA news/blog circuit.
Who do you think it a mose adept wrestler? Fitch or Kos? I would say Fitch is probably a stronger wrestler, but his BJJ skills are lacking, he always seems to get caught in some deep submission before he muscles out of it.
Kos is good, I just don’t know if he could out wrestle some of the top 170’s there are now. Like I said, he’s used to wrestling boys who are at college/university, now he’s wrestling guys who do it full time.

Happy Thanksgiving!
I think both fighters (Fitch and Kos) are overrated and underwhelming. Fitch is better to watch than Kos, but his victory over Sanchez was lame and left me feeling lukewarm about him as a fan.

Gabber, I’ll give you an argument. Saying Kos is a mid level wrestler is absolutely absurd. His junior year he went 42-0 and became the NCAA Division 1 champion. He was a four year all american, two time national wrestler of the year, and he finished 4th, 2nd, 1st, and 3rd at nationals in his four years. He is absolutely an elite wrestler, but the fact is that GSP can put anyone out of their game, he properly defended a Kimura and you claim it was cheap? You must not have that much knowledge on grappling. GSP’s JJ has a way of neutralizing Koscheck’s wrestling, GSP is a much better athlete and Kos simply could not find his groove. The fact that he didn’t let GSP finish him earns himself a lot of respect in my eyes, and if you can’t acknowledge that than you are just a natural born hater. As long as he is training at AKA, his standup will keep improving and I truly believe he can beat the best of the best in 170. “he’s showing how weak he is.” by losing a decision to GSP after having a 7-1 UFC record coming in. C’mon man, lets not be unreasonable. Facts are facts, but you are more than entitled to your opinion. Happy Thanksgiving.

I would totally have to agree, I would have thought having his first real main event type fight, he would have come out guns blazing. It wasn’t a sort of tactical stalemate (ala Rampage vs Hendo), it was more of who wanted to be patient enough to make the other lose. I was definetly left wanting alot more out of both guys. I felt the same way about Kos vs Diego, I don’t think Diego has a style that neutralizes people, so I can’t really explain it.
Regardless, with the lack of showing by Swick vs Okami and the last couple fights mentioned above by the guys from AKA, I would be remiss to establish their coach as an elite in the MMA world.
