I’m going to fight Georges St. Pierre on December 29th. I’ve got a couple reasons why I’ve made this decision and I will share those at a later time. I’ve asked for this to be for an interim title and if Matt Serra can’t fight in a year, then this would just be the title fight; but I don’t know if that is going to happen right now. I will keep you all posted.

How’s that for an upgrade? Hughes vs. St. Pierre 3? How does that make you feel about UFC 79? It makes more sense than any other fight out there right now and if this is true, then the UFC has pulled a rabbit out of their hat after a very Black Friday for their company.
Yet another division with an interim title, this time for good cause.
UPDATE: This matchup has now been made official by the UFC.

How does it make me feel? It makes me feel great. This card just got a lot better. I’d take this fight over Hughes vs Serra any day.
5 rounds might be tough with just 5 weeks notice???..i still have my money on gsp!!!
Heck yea…never have to see Hughes as champ again now, and GSP will get to fight Serra for sure now later in the year…
I agree — Finally the last of Matt Hughes. He better do some more thinking and take a fight with Fitch. Make some more $$$. After he loses to GSP its over for him.
Why is it over for him? With his name and legend, he can probably demand an immediate title shot at 185 and make a lot of money there. He has already said he only has 2-3 left, may as well make em count.
I suspect we’ll see a different fight than last time. I think GSP will win, but I don’t think it’ll be as easy for him.
Well if this turns out to be true that is an amazing job of getting a replacement fight, that is actually better then the previous fight booked.

Maybe watching this fight will help Matt Serra recover more quickly. I am sure it will have most fans walking on air, regardless of who they are hoping will win.
Trust me , After he loses its over. He did not gain any fans from the new season of TUF. And what Legend are you talking about? He s the one who claims that he only has 2-3 fights left. Do a favor and quit after GSP so Serra doesnt get to punch him in the face.
All of ya’ll are high on crack. I’m so pissed that they are doing this fight. They should have put another main event and schedualed Hughes vs Serra for a later date.

Yep, Hughes will have plenty of fight opportunities if he loses again to GSP. Look at Couture, the guy has lost 8 times out of 23 chances but he still a top dawg.
There’s no shame in losing to the best in the world at 170; Hughes will prolly move up to 185 and rule there for a while. He’s a wrestler, so those guys have longevity, unlike Liddell who has lost a step.

Even though Hughes WAS as good as he was, There still is no way he could just jump into a diffrent weight class and get a title fight. With the way his last couple of fights went leaves even more of doubt that he could just waltz in and get a title fight. There are already fighters who are fighting that weight class that would deserve a title fight more than Hughes. Think about the thought proccess of Dana White, Hughes gsp3, Then gsp serra. Myaby the loser of that fight fight’s hughes. If he is even still around after the upcomeing loss to gsp. na,na,na- na,na,na hey,hey GOODBY. Hughes is done. FINALLY. Although probably the smartes thing Hughes has done yet was Train with other people than his bum team.
You guys all talk like this is a given. Matt looked crappy last time, no doubt. But for some reason he thought he was a boxer in the last bout and I bet he takes GSP down this time…there is no one better on top then MH. I think you will be surprised how dominate he will be if he can get GSP to the ground.
