Dennis Halman vs. Matt Hughes

After his suspension Halman would be a great fit to fight Hughes. I know – it sounds far fetched but give it a chance. Hughes has had major trouble against Halman. Halman would take this fight seriously and train hard. I know he is an unknown to many casual fans but with a little background and a lot of publicity this could be a major draw. I think it would get better ratings than Validation. Thanks ——

Gabe Gonzaga vs. Josh Barnett

The casual fan (including myself) doesn’t know enough about Gonzaga, only that he “highlight reeled” Cro Cop and was soundly beaten by Captain America (broken nose or not). Barnett had gone on the record saying he stills feels the HW title belongs to him and has discounted the skills of UFC heavyweight contenders i.e. Gonzaga.

I say let’s see if Gonzaga is the future of the heavyweight division. Although I don’t really care for Barnett, let’s face it; he’s slick on the ground, experiened and would add depth the a division that is lost without The Natural.

I would also like to see Frank Mir vs. Gonzaga for a similar fight stylistically.

I know it’s been said repeatedly, but Jon Fitch vs. Matt Hughes would have everything, and be an awesome display of grappling. Everything would be on the line for both fighters: Hughes, his legacy. Fitch, his future… a world class hall of fame champ vs. a world-class up and comer prospect who’s destroyed everyone in his way.
I’d definitely vote for that fight. Especially since Karo already fought.

I personally would have loved to have seen Andrei Arlovski vs Mirko “Cro-Cop” Flipovic

They are both great strikers, they both have left something to be desired in their last fights and need an impressive fight to get back in the good graces of the UFC and the fans. Both were great and seemed to have slipped recently. It would be a great make or break fight and I know it would be an exciting watch.

Jardine vs Griffin 2…theyre both coming off Huge wins. Evans just fought, Rua just had surgery. The rematch would take place almost exactly 1 yr after their first fight. Depending on how Wandy does against Chuck, Jardine vs Griffin could very well legitimize the true #1 contender at LHW

Derek, I’d be most competitive at 170 lbs. However, I’m pretty out of shape right now so I would need six months to get in range to where I could cut to that target. Plus, I doubt Ryan wants to go down to that weight.

I can do 185 lbs. I’d could probably get to that in two weeks but I’d want to get down to that weight the right way and I’d need at least three months of full training before I took any kind of fight.

If FightLinker beats me he will win a lifetime supply of 5 Oz. t-shirts.

No joke, Jason Chambers vs Hughes. What more could you ask for. Instant appeal, JC in not under contract, doesnt have any upcoming fights, tons of exposure, BIG NAME, etc, etc. It would market itself.

5 OZ: Can you clarify whether you wanted a welterweight match-up for this contest or if it was supposed to involve Hughes? Can it be a fighter who’s already scheduled to fight? I’ve already weighed in, but I wasn’t sure if my suggestion fell within the parameters. Does the “likelihood” figure in, or is it an “if we ran the UFC” kinda thing? NYE is an opportunity for fantasy match-ups and I think you need a sensational element (like Lesnar) to bring in casual fans.

Personally, I think both Big Nog and Lesnar would stand to gain from fighting each other on NYE. The exposure would be tremendous and no one could really be blamed for losing. It would look like one of those classic Pride mis-matches (a la Bob Sapp or Schilt), where it isn’t really a mis-match if you know the ability of the smaller man. Of course, Dana has very different plans for both fighters. My suggestion is simply an improvement on the current UFC gameplan (IMHO). Cheers.
