UFC 80 to Be Aired via PPV, Not Spike TV

Apparently, UFC 80: “Rapid Fire” will be a pay-per-view broadcast, as opposed to the original rumors that the card would be aired live on Spike TV.

MMAJunkie.com heard from a cable representative (the cable company hasn’t been disclosed) that a Zuffa representative contacted them about broadcasting the UFC 80 card via pay-per-view. Also, according to the UFC Full Schedule, the event has been indicated as being aired live on pay-per-view.

For those of you who watched UFC 72, the UFC 80 card will most likely follow the same TV schedule. Since it is being held in Newcastle, England, it will be shown live on January 19 around 3pm ET, and then repeated at the typical UFC event time of 10pm ET.

UFC 80 features an interim title fight between B.J. Penn and Joe Stevenson, as well as a co-main event bout between Gabriel Gonzaga and Fabricio Werdum.

Any one think this has anything to do with Zuffa be reassed? And that they lost money the last 2 qtrs? With the pride purchase and WEC they need to get some cash in a hurry, plus they gotta be able to pay some of these guys less than 5 grand to fight??
