IFL and HDNet deal close to being finalized: FiveOunces Exclusive

FiveOuncesOfPain.com (www.FiveOuncesOfPain.com) has learned that HDNet and the IFL could finalize an agreement as early as Tuesday that would allow the IFL’s Word Grand Prix finals on Dec. 29 to be televised on the network.

The live telecast will be two hours in duration with no specific time determined as of yet, however, the time window will precede the start of UFC 79.

The IFL WGP finals will see champions determined in the heavyweight, middleweight, welterweight, lightweight, and featherweight divisions. The most-anticipated fight will be a rematch between Chris Horodecki vs. Shad Lierley in the lightweight division. The two fought in June in Everett, Wash. in what was considered by many to be the best match in the company’s young history.

The WGP semifinals took place on Nov. 3 in Chicago with one hour being televised live on MyNetworkTV. MyNetwork was said to have been interested in televising the finals but the timing did not make sense from a logistical standpoint as some of the network’s biggest local affiliates were already committed to televising local sports broadcasts on that date.
