Evan

i'm relatively new to MMA and it's hard to dig up history. what has happened in the past with positive tests? i know that there was a big deal with Barnett and i think the most recent case was someone from UFC 75 i believe tested positive and was dropped

"he held up the entire division for Sherk"

I am not saying whether he was right or wrong for that, I honestly don't know. But if he had done that people would be screaming something like "way to stand up for your fighters, he shows no respect"

You're only allowed a certain amount of time to file an appeal. I think Hermes is sol. As for Sherk, I've read that there is some questions regarding his results. The CSAC didn't properly investigate these problems.
Thus, you have the stupid legal crap going on that will ultimately leave us with no answers.

is he guilty or not? has CSAC explicitly given a ruling?

although Dana has no control over CSAC rulings, he held up the entire division for Sherk, he should have stripped him immediately after the test and booked the interim lightweight between Stevenson and Penn

is there any way Hermes can appeal now?

He will be stripped of the title...then they'll hype up the whole REAL champ angle with the winner of BJ Penn/Stevenson.

This doesn't have much to do with Dana although I know everyone choses to blame him for everything.

This is about how reality works, justice is defined by what kind of a lawyer you get.

Hermes definitely got the shaft, the lesson is that it pays to be Dana's buddy

the worst thing is that he's elligible to fight in January, giving Dana the option not to strip him of the belt

Hermes only requested a lighter sentence, admitted he was wrong and still got a year. Sherk drags out an appeal process for months upon months just to have his sentence reduced. A reduced sentence still means your guilty, your just not in as much trouble. So when is he going to stop with all these denials? How does Hermes fess up to his mistake and still get slammed so hard?
