Now it’s actually official: Popular MMA referee “Big” John McCarthy, along with The Fight Network, held a press conference today to announce McCarthy’s signing with the company to become a fight analyst and a live commentator for events covered on the all-MMA sports channel. Representatives of The Fight Network said that they envision McCarthy being a “John Madden of mixed martial arts.” “Big” John stated in the call that he was very excited about taking this position and becoming a more influential figure in mixed martial arts.
When asked his opinion on MMA refereeing and judging, He noted that he believes there is a lot of work to do in those departments. He also plans on being heavily involved in the training of MMA referees as well as judges.
This Saturday night, “Big” John will be the referee of the fight between Roger Huerta and Clay Guida. This will be McCarthy’s 535th bout as a referee, and his last.”Big” John will be making his first on-air appearance for The Fight Network alongside Mauro Ranallo on December 14 at TKO in Montreal, Quebec.
