If the Huerta who showed up in the 3rd round came out in the 1st round, that fight would have been over very quickly. The problem is, Huerta coasted for the 1st two rounds, almost looking like he was just trying not to get knocked out (which he almost did, at least twice, once seriously). If a fighter who can actually finish fights had been in there, Huerta would have been done. Huerta is both, and so I understand both arguments. If Huerta fights with intensity every round, not just the last round, then he is ready for the big show. He also needs to be careful of eating too many counter punches. Every time he hit Guida, he got hit twice himself.

George, sounds like you're a Huerta fan. Me too. I am sold on his composed strikes and scrambling, the latino demographic agenda, the heart-throb angle, and now the heart to pull out a come from behind win. However, I have to agree that Huerta doesn't look like a natural #1 contender. The fight with Guida exposed too many holes in his game (light strikes, lack of take-down defense, slow starter, etc). You just have to catch that frustrated look on his face that kept coming up when he was taken down repeatedly. Personally, I never wanna see Huerta lose. But, it'll probably happen soon if he doesn't adjust his game.

Paul, Mac Danzig would like me to tell you that it serves you right about the ill effects of the chili. Personally, as long as I've got cilantro and fresh jalapenos in the pot, then the chili's gonna burn at both ends for me... and I'll love every minute of it.

I don't know if you got the memo, but it's not an interim title fight anymore... straight up title fight, since Sherk doesn't have the title anymore.

Did I read that correctly, "The verdict is still out on Roger Huerta?", what? How many more hoops does the man have to fly through to get his well earned title shot? He passed this is second hardest test (next to a then perfect 8-0, World Class BJJ Master) with flying colors. Florian is 6-2 in the UFC, Edgar has but 8 fights total, even Sherk is 5 and 1 in the UFC. Huerta is 6 and 0 in the UFC, and has won 16 (sixteen), YES 16 in a row. Have the guys that are beneath Huerta, (like Florian duke it out with Crane or Guida, or have Edgar fight Guida), before even putting him on the same level as Huerta. For perspective, you'll be hard pressed to find anyone with the heart, champion spirit, charisma and record (not to mention consecutive victores) of Huerta in the UFC except for Fitch. You critics will never be silenced, and to answer your question the verdict was read loud and clear if not on the Crane fight then last night - and the Jury finds for Huerta to fight the winner of Penn\Stevenson after he gets his degree, and they put the Title Match on hopefully in Mexico.

Roger Huerta is ready for the top of the division. Last night, despite losing the first two rounds, the guy fought back from adversity and finished the fight. It was absolutely amazing. I don't even think they're going to match him up with Florian; I think they'll probably match up Guida with Florian actually. I see Sherk fighting Huerta and the winner fighting the winner of the interim belt fight, tournament style.

Forrest-Rampage absolutely fucking awesome.

Quick Notes:

- Spike also ruined the announcement for anyone owning a Tivo or DVR, as the announcement was made like 10 minutes after the broadcast was scheduled to be over.

- Sam, you can't knock the Alkaline Trio (Clay's old entrance music).

- "Music City Beatdown..." How you defame the Cashville, man. Floyd executed an unbelievable gameplan last night during the bout with Hatton, you can't deny that. You just switched to MMA because of your A.D.D..

- If Koppenhaver and Rollins had bigger names (not literal), or this fight had any sort of relevance in the welterweight division, this would easily be considered fight of the year. But alas, it had none of that, so it was just a lot of fun.

- I'll end with a question: Who would you like to see Mac Danzig matched up with for his UFC lightweight debut?

p.s. If jaydog reads this... that chili is biting back today.... yikes.

Last night was a wake up call for Huerta. Every fight with the top lightweights will be like that. Clearly he has the skill to fight with the best, but every one will be a war. Great division and I love the pace of the fights with the lighter fighters.

Spike messed up Dana's big annpuncement when they showed a preview of Griffin and Rampage standing next to each other at the VGA's. Everyone knew it would be them.

Sire note, Guida losing totally ruined my weekend!

After watching the tape of the Hatton vs Mayweather. Now I know why I will never go back to boxing. I am glad I didn't pay for that BS. On the other hand look at what I got for free at the TUF finale. Two of the most entertaining fights of the year. All heart no BS.

I don't think that Forrest and Rampage as coaches means that Forrest is getting a title shot, or even that it will be "tied up" necessarily. Hughes and Franklin coached season two and didn't fight each other at the end. I think the UFC realized they have two fighters with made-for-TV personalities are trying to capitalize on that. I think this allows them to promote the show in a way other than "the coaches hate each other so there will be drama!" which is quite tired. Rampage and Forrest will make for a hilarious show almost every week, and make the show worth watching for entertainment's sake. I recorded the episodes this year and fast-forwarded through most of them. There is no way I'll do that with Rampage and Forrest.

Look at the tape of the TUF 6 finale two hours and fifty minutes in... right after Huerta-Guida ends and right as Kenny Florian is saying on commentary that one punch or kick or knee can change a fight... Matt Hughes is celebrating Huerta's win, then someone points him to a TV monitor, and he pulls up his seat to watch. If you pause to look at what he's watching, it's the final referee instructions in the ring for the Mayweather-Hatton fight, which was starting at that very moment. The way the timing worked out is that the opening bell of Mayweather-Hatton was less than 60 seconds after the end of Huerta-Guida.

Even Huerta said in his post-fight interview on ufc.com is that he hardly trains wrestling and that he is going to do that a lot more for his next fight. I can see Huerta training kind of like Kenny Florian does, you find a weakness in his game one fight and see how much he has improved on the weakness in the next fight. Huerta is the real deal and i wouldn't be surprised if he were a champion one day.

I agree with most of what you said except for your thoughts of roger huerta. I think Huerta could beat any of the guys you listed with a possible exception with Sean Sherk, (he's too strong, i think he could keep Roger on the ground and eek out a decision.) Great thoughts otherwise. You did forget one thing worth mentioning that was overlooked all night, Big John.
If you don't miss that guy, then you're not a fan of MMA at least not UFC. (Generaly speaking, not singleing you out.)
