Just look at that recent article where that spare Matthew Mconaughey got hurt filimg that MMA movie..

Did anyone call it a MMA movie? No. Every write up had “Ultimate Fighting Style.”

Go ahead and look it up. Nobody says MMA. Not CNN, not the AP story, not yahoo.

UFC is not underground. “MMA” still pretty much is. The fan base is growing, but I think you are deluding yourself if you think mainstream America knows anything but UFC and maybe that there are some freakshows on the TapOut show.

Just to prove it, I just polled my neighborhood grocers…

UFC isn’t the only thing that is watched. I can go to the bagger at the grocery store and talk about Fedor. I can walk up to the Janitor at my University and talk about how Gomi is afraid to fight Americans. You guys are in your little bubble, acting like MMA is so secret and you’re special because you know who Nakamura was at UFC 76. Guess what: everyone else knew too. Quit pretending like MMA is underground still. You and all the other people on the internet act like it is, go out and talk to real people in the real world and you’ll know that things aren’t like post #39.

I want to see this fight too, but let’s be reasonable – we are all MMA fans.

Most people only watch UFC. In fact, who do you know that even says “MMA” that isn’t a hard core fan? People say “Ultimate Fighter” or “Ultimate Fighting”. I’m going to go a step further – “Fedor” means absolutely nothing to the average fan. They would pay twice as much to see Ortiz or Liddell fight Couture!

The success of this sport is based purely on the marketing ability of the UFC. And they are selfish – companies are supposed to be selfish when it comes to the competition – that is what makes a firm successful and it is in everyone’s best interest that companies act in this manner.

Randy signed a bad contract. His bad. The fight’ll happen eventually.

But realistically, put it personal terms – if you had spent your life savings to make your company successful and it finally was – why in the hell would you open the door for anyone else? I sure as hell wouldn’t. I’d try to crush them at every turn. That’s just good business. Notice no major HDNET or IFL fight happens without a UFC event on the same night (some small exceptions). The common fan is ALWAYS going to watch UFC.

To go one step further and turn the tables, the UFC had the opportunity to kill the possibility of any other promotions even having a chance by treating their fighters a little better and paying them a little more. The fact that they didn’t/don’t is what is allowing these other promotions to attract top talent. Now that Cuban is in the game – there is a real threat. He has what – 4 promotions on HDNET this month alone? PLus 6.2 billion in personal assets, not to mention the assets of his businesses, plus a successful background in sports marketing on a national level. That’s the business decision I think the UFC will wish they could take back in a year or two…

I realize that was a gross digression from the topic, but it is the end of the work week before Christmas…

Yes, Fedor wanted to fight a 43 year old man a month after he had just gone twenty five minutes. Real honorable there, champ. If Fedor wanted Randy he would have came to America, just like how Wanderlei came because he wanted Chuck.

How generous of M-1 to offer up the match to UFC. Next up, a local soda distributor will offer Coca-Cola a chance to “co-promote” their product, and it will be the industry giant’s “fault” that they’re not lending their brand name credibility to the upstart no-name.

Dana sucks,he would hate to cross promote.they only reason he did was because hes really good friends with liddell.Fedor v couture would be the mma fight of the century.I think if this fight is held off as long as the liddell v silva fight randy will be to old.

I kinda enjoy the back and forth between Couture, M-1 and UFC. It’s a MMA match in a business setting rather than an Octagon. White/UFC and Couture and M-1 are all grappling for a dominant position through press releases, interviews and offers/counteroffers. Let’s see who’s got the best skills. If White and UFC hang tough, I think they come out on top.

I think if you were to ask any decently informed MMA fan what the fight of the century would be, they would say Couture / Fedor.

We all know that it would be the biggest (Revenue / Viewership) fight to date.

I think the answer is to use an organization like HDNet to televise the event and have M-1 and UFC bargain for the details. The fact that this fight hasn’t happened is due to a reality of the sport today. Two businesses have to agree to do business. It’s not just about the ultimate goal of proving to the world who the best fighter is. I wish it was though.

Personally, I think Fedor’s management should have taken the UFC up on their offer. It was fair and ultimately would have been best for his career. Unfortunately for Fedor, his management does not have his best interest at heart. They will continue to match him up against non-elite punks in an attempt to perpetuate how “Great” he is.

All things aside, Randy is my favorite fighter and I believe Fedor is the best fighter in the world. That being said, I would be willing to pay $75 to see this bout on TV or in a Movie Theatre Streaming live.
