EliteXC’s Jon Murphy – Beast to Bald Beauty

jon_murphy_haircut

Here’s your feel-good-MMA-story of the week:

EliteXC heavyweight Jon Murphy used to have a lion-esque hairstyle, similar to UFC’s Clay Guida. As pictured above, he recently buzzed his dome and donated his hair to Locks of Love (LoL is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces made from real hair to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis).

Murphy told 5 Oz of Pain he started letting it grow out back in Oct ’05 and about a year ago heard about the organization Locks of Love. It took another year or so for his hair to grow to the required donation length of 10 inches. When he shaved it all off this past New Year’s Day, Murphy had 15 inches of flowing locks to donate.

For his career’s sake, I hope his hair doesn’t have Samson-like qualities.

You can hang out with Jon Murphy if you head down to the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, NJ on Jan 25th for the next ShoXC card.

I like Murphy and that is a great cause. But also hope -like you said – he didn’t lose his power like Samson.

You know I did the same thing about 4 months ago. I use to have long hair like that…but then donated it to LoL.

A great thing I might add…PLUS! The long hair gets really annoying and isn’t really professional.
