Report: Houston Alexander vs. James Irvin at UFC 83

It’s just ridonkulous how much news is surfacing this week about upcoming events. News is coming out of the freakin’ woodwork here. MMA Junkie’s now got another scoop, this one involving Houston Alexander vs. James Irvin at UFC 83 in London, England:

A source close to Houston Alexander (8-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that the UFC light heavyweight has accepted a fight with James Irvin (13-4 MMA, 3-3 UFC) and is simply awaiting word on whether Irvin’s camp will green-light the bout.

Prepare for some punches to be thrown. Both are strikers so both will probably look to keep the fight standing. While Irvin has a lot of experience, look for the explosiveness of Houston Alexander to take over during this fight and put Houston back on the winning track. It should come as no surprise to anyone that Houston’s not going up against any BJJ black belts again. The UFC learned its lesson once.

I don’t see what’s stopping Irvin from taking Houston down, mounting him, and knocking him out.

    Irvin’s chin might stop him. . .
he just got muffed up by a knee. . .
and. . . he got knocked out by mike kyle. . .
but. . . idk. . . this is one of those rare situations where i don’t feel the need to pick sides. . .

I see Houston wanting to take th is match to the ground to prove that he’s making the transition into becoming an all around MMA fighter.

We’ll see what happens…I still have alot of faith in Alexander.

Yea i agree if Irvin is dumb enough to stand in front of Houston, its a wrap! Alexanders fighting style is so brutal, he fights like a guy who just had his wallet stolen, very unrefined. And ive never seen anything impressive from james irvin other than that flying knee a while ago…so heres hopin that houston beats all his dumb tattoos right off him.

Irvin is tailor made for Alexander. Irvin’s flying knee was against Terry Martin, who manhandled Irvin throughout the first round. Martin got caught with the knee as he was coming in low, perhaps a shoot. Alexander’s stronger and faster working than Martin, so I wouldn’t put any money on Irvin.

Well we shall see. James likes to get in the ring and determine what stratagy is needed. Maybe you should remember that infamous ‘flying knee’ kick, and perhaps try it yourself? James has a rigerous training schedule (just take a look at that physique! Go James Go! If he accepts this fight it will be because he believes in himself and all that he has trained for.

Looks like Alexander is way over-hyped. Did you see him telling the whole world he was not “out”?!?! 2 first round knock-outs in his last 2 fights and he wasn’t on the good side…in fact he is a record holder for being the fastest knocked-out!
