January 19, 2008 by Sam Caplan

The UFC officially announced Saturday afternoon through e-mail that UFC Fight Night 13 is slated for April 2 in Broomfield, Colorado at the Broomfield Event Center.

The advertised main event is a lightweight bout between Massachusetts-natives Kenny Florian and Joe Lauzon. However, a welterweight bout between Karo Parisyan and Thiago Alves is listed as well. Several media outlets had reported that Parisyan vs. Alves was set to take place on April 19 at UFC 84 in Montreal.

The other featured bout announced by the UFC is a light heavyweight match between Stephan Bonnar and Matt Hamill.

A portion of the card will be telecast on Spike TV starting at 9 p.m. ET. The televised portion of the card will serve as a lead in for the season premiere of the seventh season of “The Ultimate Fighter.”

Tickets for the event go on sale to the general public this Wednesday, January 23 but Internet pre-sales will begin as early as tomorrow.

Why would the Florian/Lauzon fight be the main event on the card rather than Parisyan/Alves? Both fights should be good, but aren’t Parisyan and Alves both better known?

Florian and Lauzon have the TUF recognition and as this Ultimate Fight Night is a lead into the 7th season, they get the billing.

The role of the Ultimate Fight Night is to help sort out the divisions by having matchups between the lower ranked fighters of their division and also to push the TUF fame by matching up all the TUF alumni.
