I'm goin with Lesner and Sylvia.
I've heard all about about how great Mir WAS... But what I've seen thus
far leaves me yawning.
Lesner may well be the next big thing, but watching the press clip earlier was PAINFUL. Christ the guy's been on TV for years!! I hope he did have a bad case of roadburn because if he didn't, he better start wearing his headgear in practice.
If Mir can't get ahold of something early while Les is still dry, then he's gonna be in for a beating. I look for Mir to try to jump onboard Les's back while standing or coming off the fence for an rnc .
This fight has all the potential of ending up with 2 guys fighting NOT TO LOSE. That'll suck.

As for Silva, every time I write the guy off, he shows me something that I didn;t expect from him and and surprises me so I'm gonna go with him this time.

#29, thanks for cutting the quote and taking it out of context. Here's the quote, not chopped up:

"I actually think Antoni Hardonk is a bigger threat to Lesnar than Mir. I’m not saying Hardonk is better than Mir, simply that the matchup poses more problems. Hardonk is a good striker and if Lesnar can’t get someone like that off their feet, I don’t see him performing well at this stage of his career."

Operative phrase: matchup that poses more problems.

Thanks for playing.

On countdown to UFC 81 Mir was really struggling with his knee. When they showed him trying to stand in the cage it looked pretty bad.

Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir-

Sam Caplan says: "I actually think Antoni Hardonk is a bigger threat to Lesnar than Mir....Hardonk is a good striker and if Lesnar can’t get someone like that off their feet, I don’t see him performing well at this stage of his career."

Are you kidding me Sam? - Evidentally you didn't watch the Hardonk vs. McCully fight at UFN. McCully took Hardonk down at will and Gnd and Pnd Hardonk to victory. Lesnar would have no problem taking Hardonk down, Hardonk is not a bigger threat than Mir. Of the Heavyweight strikers out there that you could use, Andre Arlovski or Nogueira come to mind. Guys like Kongo and Hardonk are good strikers that have terrible take down defense and have little to no jits credability.

Did you watch Mir vs. Hardonk? Mir was a beast, Looked like the Mir of old...which on Saturday you'll see a Frank Mir in his Prime.

Rich, you need to look at the quality of Frank Myrrh's wins (and losses) when evaluating his career.

His most notable win against an elite opponent is Tim Sylvia. And as you admitted, that was just as much Sylvia's incompetence as much as Mir's submission skill. Who else has he beaten of note? Here's a hint: NO ONE.

His next best win was Pete Williams. Now let that sink in for a second. Pete friggin' Williams is Mir's second most impressive win. A guy who was an up-and-comer in 1998 and was a mediocre journeyman by the time Mir beat him in 2002. Not only that, he was a journeyman in an era where fighters still did not cross-train. Williams wouldn't even make it to TUF today.

Then consider his loss to another journeyman of the "no cross-training" era: Ian Freeman. Freeman was a one-dimensional brawler who for his most recent fight fought at 205. This guy didn't just beat Mir. He DESTROYED him. It was laugher. And this was in Mir's "prime".

Great picks you guys.

I like the differing opinions as opposed to everyone picking the same fighters to win. That's what picks are supposed to do, make you think of all the possibilities a fight could end, expecially with 7 different guys picking the fights.

I have to concure with a couple of thoughts; I think Sylvia wins a boring decision using his swamp-thing jab and I think Lesnar will be able to over-power Mir. I mean, f'ing Pe De Pano over-powered Mir, he has no chance against Lesnar's strength.
