Is network TV deal still in the cards for UFC?

Even though talks to bring UFC 81 to network television didn’t prove to be fruitful, a landmark TV deal for the mixed martial arts industry could be on the horizon, according to Gary Herman of 15rounds.com:

The long awaited debut for the Ultimate Fighting Championship on a major network may not be very far off. Ongoing conversations are heating up. UFC President Dana White expects major progress in the next few days.

“I am going out of town tomorrow for a week. Hopefully, I’ll come back with good news,” White said.

Recent rumors have suggested that the UFC’s planned June event in the UK could be earmarked for CBS.

    Yessir!

i hope it happens but when the first huge cut from a elbow and that blood is all over the mat……that’s my only concern with the UFC on a major network….

  4. Ivan Trembow says:

This kind of talk doesn’t necessarily mean very much in terms of its correlation with reality. Remember, the UFC said in April 2006 that it would be on HBO “very soon,” and then guaranteed in mid-2007 that it would be on HBO “by the end of this year.” Then last month in an SI.com interview, they “guaranteed” that they would have a network TV deal signed “soon.”

  5. Ray Jay says:

Ivan hits on the head. Unless they start the UFC Network, I don’t see a network deal anytime soon.

  6. Jiu-Jitsu Guy says:

I agree with paddiosf. What is going to happen if there is a bloodbath fight and someone like Babalu doesn’t let go of a submission?
