Former UFC heavyweight champion Josh Barnett confirmed via his MySpace account on Sunday night that he’s indeed set to return to competitive MMA on March 5 in Japan.
According to Barnett, he will face Hidehiko Yoshida for the World Victory Road promotion.
“The moment has finally arrived,” Barnett stated. “I am finally getting back in the ring after being unable to fight for over one year. I will be stepping into the main event of World Victory Road’s premier event: Sengoku March 5th at Yoyogi Stadium. My opponent – none other than Judo Olympic Gold Medalist and former PRIDE fighter Hidehiko Yoshida.”
While he has competed in professional wrestling matches in Japan in recent months, Barnett has not competed in a professional MMA bout since losing a unanimous decision to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira during PRIDE’s Shockwave card on New Year’s Eve of 2006.
