UFC 83: Fastest Sellout In UFC History
From UFC.com:
Las Vegas, NV (USA) –The Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC®) organization today announced that the first UFC event in Canada UFC 83: SERRA vs. ST-PIERRE 2 taking place Saturday, April 19 live from Montreal’s Bell Centre is sold out, and that the event ranks as the fastest UFC sellout in history.
“Most of the tickets for UFC 83 were sold in the first 24 hours of our UFC Fight Club presale, and the rest were gone within one minute of the public on-sale today,” said Dana White, UFC President. “I’m excited to say that this event is a sellout, and the fastest one in UFC history, so it’s safe to say we definitely will be back in Canada after this inaugural event.”
That is freaking wild, especially because according to Ticketmaster the tickets don’t even go on sale to the general public until 12:00 PM EST today, Friday, February 8th. Maybe this press release was just in anticipation of the big moment? Either way, it speaks volumes about the kind of MMA fans that Canada possesses. The Bell Centre will be rocking.

You have to understand that Montreal is within a 2-hour drive of Ottawa, and within 7 of Toronto. This is a HUGE event and there are a lot of frustrated MMA fans in Ontario. And Quebec itself is a HUGE market for MMA, as one of the only provinces in Canada that sanction the sport.
I’m not surprised at the sellout al all, I just wish I could have got tickets! TicketMaster says they’re all gone for me. Maybe it’s a timing thing?
Oh well, you can bet I’ll buy the PPV and I get Goldie and Rogan…LOL

It’s not that surprising to me. I’m actually more surprised that UFC events don’t sell out that fast in the US.
Then again, we don’t have much else in Canada… hockey, beer and Georges St. Pierre.
