Patrick Cote out of UFC 83; manager says fight with Belcher was never signed
Posted by Adam MorganFrom a report at The Fight Network:
“We were still talking [to the UFC] about an opponent when Patrick fell on the ice,” Patry said. “He went for the MRI, and the doctor told him it’s sprained and he can’t train for four to six weeks – so he won’t be available to fight [in April].”
Despite published reports that Cote (12-4, 3-4 UFC) would face Alan “The Talent” Belcher (12-4, 3-2 UFC) at the UFC’s inaugural Canadian show, Patry said the fight was never signed. He also indicated he would not have approved the bout even if it had been offered, as a victory over Belcher would have done little to further Cote’s place in the UFC’s middleweight division.
“We were not going to take that fight anyway,” Patry said. “It wouldn’t make sense.”
I don’t know who Stephane Patry thinks Cote should be fighting but a fight with Belcher made all the sense in the world in the middleweight division. Tough break for the Canadian as I’m sure he was looking forward to fighting on his home turf. Falling on some ice is some seriously ill fated stuff. Get well, Patrick.

Man, the UFC wasted no time in finding a replacement for Cote. Maybe the doctor called them so they could be the first to know.

man, that sucks! i was really looking forward to seeing him fight soon! im glad his luck has changed in the ufc, lets just hope with falling on the ice his luck isnt changing to the worst!
What the hell is Cote talking about? He’s no better, or worse, than Belcher.
Card just went from bad to just horrible. Do the Canadians really want to see their countrymen fight on every freakin’ bout? Sure, St. Pierre is awesome and Stout has potential but besides them I’d rather see some of the real UFC guys instead of Day, Bocek, Doerkson, MacDonald, Goulet, etc. They see those guys fight all of the time, and they’re very average fighters. At least Canada gets to see Bisping and Franklin, but they’re fighting nobodies so it’s tough to get up for those ones. McCarthy must be from Canada; there’s no other explanation for him being on this card.
lol@ Cote…dude is feeling himself a little too much right now. Belcher is no slouch.
bbbbbooooooooooo I was really looking forward to this one. Redneck Quebecois vs. Redneck Mississippi
(jk) Seriously though, this would have been a great match up.. Cote’s a slugger with stubby little arms, whereas Belcher is sharp(ish) with great MT knees.
looks like Jason Day is fighting instead of Patrick Cote
Jason Day is a good replacement for this fight. Just won a split decision over Loiseau and is riding a 4 fight win streak. I don’t understand Patrys’ comments that the fight with Belcher wouldn’t have made since. That fight makes more sense then Cotes’ last fight with McFedries.
Belcher may have his flaws, but he’s tough and a wild-ass striker. That’s never an easy fight. I kinda like him.
Hey! Do we bitch and wine when the UFC makes an all American UFC?
Enough with the Canadians this and that, and enjoy the fricken card. Or don’t.
Jason “Dooms” Day is no joke by the way, he’s got a shot to beat Belcher. It’s not as if he hasn’t paid his dues in the smaller shows. He’s a solid fighter and it was just a matter of time. The pride of Lethbridge.
#4 i’m a big franklin fan, but i actually see this as being a tough match up for him… sure his stand up can potentially KO lutter, but if it gets to the ground i’d come to think that he might be in a little trouble if lutter comes properly prepared… on the show he manhandled scott smith, and completely neutralized drago (whom i might add is a black belt in bjj), and subbed cote in what like 1 min…
