Brock Lesnar to fight in August; Faber vs. Pulver for free this summer

Buried at the bottom of Dave Meltzer’s report about the UFC’s new sponsor, he gives us some other goodies from Dana White at the press conference today regarding the future of Brock Lesnar as well as a fight between Urijah Faber and Jens Pulver this summer:

White also said that Brock Lesnar, whose debut on Feb. 2 led the company to one of its most successful pay-per-view events in its history, losing to Frank Mir, will have his second UFC fight in August. No opponent has been named but the leading candidate appears to be Justin McCulley.

He also said the most anticipated WEC match thus far, a featherweight title defense by Urijah Faber against Jens Pulver, will take place this summer from Sacramento as a live special on Versus.

McCully talked about a possible matchup with Lesnar last week on Inside MMA and now it looks as if that’s more truth than not. It’s good for Lesnar to sit out until August as most of the UFC pay per views are already stacked through June. The UFC will need his star power to help carry a couple of shows in the mid to late part of this year. Plus, it gives him an opportunity to continue to train and soak up as much knowledge as possible before his next fight.

As for the WEC match, it’s highly anticipated but does anyone see Pulver beating Faber? I certainly don’t see a way that Pulver wins that fight. Oh well, at least it will be on Versus and not pay per view.

im not quite sure that pulver can win either, hopefully it is a great fight, but jens i capable of doing it like how he sunk cub in just a few seconds (which was awesome), hell even jeff curran got handled by faber, at his own game, he wanted to go to the ground and lost the fight on the ground, jens better try and knock the kid out, or he may get slammed and choked…. just like everyone else (except tyson)…… Brock is going to destroy justin, even if he doesnt right away, justin is going to get gassed and then brock is going ti gnp him thru the floor…. he does need to train more on his sub defense which is kinda like saying houston needs to work on his ground game(extremely obvious)… cant wait for saturday, cheers……

urijah faber is the truth. pulver is good fighter, but faber is a freak of nature. and i hope 1 day he gets revenge for his loss to tyson griffin, but that means some1 has to go up or down a weight class. ive been following urijahs career for a long time now, and hes a beast for his size. every1 who is a fan of mma needs to know his name and pay more attention to his fights. just because its featherweight doesnt make it any less exciting. hes in my top 10 fighter list but often ignored by others because of the weight class. one of the best records in mma and not because of the competition. cant wait for this fight, but pulver will get choked out 1st round guarenteed.

as for lesnar, whatever, hes a good wild striker so if you throw him a scrub yeah hell win by ko. could care less. im not one of the fan boys who say he shouldnt of taken the fight with mir. why not? if he wants to play with big boys, then he has to fight them. give em sylvia next and maybe ill care.

What can Brock really learn in his current camp? Seems to me he would have went with a camp other then lay and pray Sherks. He can already wrestle, he needs bjj and stand up, neither one is Sherk known for. As for him taking a fight against Mir so soon, what you think the UFC is willing to pay him top dollar right from rip to baby him and put him against scrubs and nobodies? As more Pulver, I think Jens has a hell of a chance against butt chin face myself.

I can see Pulver winning that fight. Pulver is a force at this weight. Jens needs to stay off the ground and try to make it a standup fight. Jens can rock him if he catches him.

  5. Sergio says:

I guess he’s off of June’s card in London.

But isn’t that the card that’s rumored for UFC’s new TV deal?

Wouldn’t they want to stack that?

    Who knows?

Tommy: Sherk has gone 10 rounds on top of Florian and Franca. Lesnar could do much worse for learning submission defense. He doesn’t need to learn sub offense anyway, ground and pound is his best bet.

Sherk has technical boxing as well, but he has t-rex arms that prevent him from hitting his opponents. You underrate both Sherk and his camp.

They do excel at keeping the postive tests to a minimal. I won my bet with Brock and Mir but then lost my bet between Brock and the NSAC.
