Rumor: Shane Carwin to face Christian Wellisch at UFC 84

MMA Weekly is reporting in its rumors section that recent UFC acquisition, Shane Carwin will make his UFC debut against Christian Wellisch at UFC 84: Ill Will.

Carwin has a perfect 8-0 record and was both a Division II wrestling champion and a two-time All-American in football. The news of the UFC signing Carwin was exclusively reported right here, at FiveOuncesOfPain.com.

His rumored opponent, Christian Wellisch, is currently 8-3 professionally with a 2-1 mark in the UFC. He last competed at UFC 76: Knockout where he defeated Scott Junk via heel hook in the first round.

UFC 84: Ill Will is set to take place May 24th, in Las Vegas, Nevada and is headlined by a UFC lightweight championship match between current UFC lightweight champion, B.J. Penn and former UFC lightweight champion, Sean Sherk.

Intriguing light heavyweight contests between Tito Ortiz and Lyoto Machida as well as Keith Jardine vs. Wanderlei Silva will serve as co-main events.

    He has one fight left on his contract and the only way he can get out of it quickly is for him to finish up the number of fights. If the UFC offered Tito the fight and he refused they could keep Tito on ice for the duration of the time period of his contract.
