Gilbert Melendez will now face Gabe Lemley

Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez (13-1) will now face Gabe Lemley (11-6) at the March 29th EliteXC/Strikeforce event, according to MMA Junkie.

Strikeforce Vice President Mike Afromowitz told MMA Junkie yesterday that a fight between Melendez and Chute Boxe jiu jitsu coach, Cristiano Marcello was never made official.

Melendez will be coming off his first professional loss against Mitsuhiro Ishida at the New Year’s Eve “Yarrenoka!” show in Japan. His opponent, Gabe Lemley has fought his entire career in smaller shows such as Extreme Challenge and the Xtreme Fighting Organization. He is currently on a five fight win streak.
