I dont’ think many of you understand the level of skill that Anderson Silva has. Dana White does not have a choice in this. Anderson Silva has already stipulated that he is willing to quit UFC and retire. He is serious about the boxing business and if Dana White was smart he would support it and not push the issue, if he did a joint venture at least he would see part of the profits. Anderson Silva is a name to himself, if he has to quit, then he will. Dana White knows that.

Anderson Silva should fight Jones. If he wins, well he wins. Awesome. If he loses he loses fighting out of his element. So it shows nothing. He cant “lose”. I’d rather him find someone in the ufc to fight but this is interesting too.

A fight is a fight. Silva has a chance , any body who says otherwise is just spouting ignorance and hasn’t seen the rescent upsets in boxing AND mma.
50/50. I don’t care if one guy is as good as the other is bad it’s 50/50. Anything can happen in MMA or Boxing. Break it down, #1 It’s a fight I’d like to see. #2 It’s a fight that active MMA fighters would like to see. #3 Ten % of the profits from that one fight alone would bring in more money than any full card the UFC has put on in the past. #4 Granted Anderson Silva has taken a big bite, but is it more than he can chew? He has fought far more dangerous guys than Jr. in MMA, so I don’t see intimidation being a factor. Plus he’s got two pro boxing matches under his belt already, so it’s nothing new to him. The one with the pressure on him would be Roy Jones Jr.

Roy wouldn’t get in the octagon, he’d be a fool to. The difference is Silva said he wants a piece of Roy, not the other way around. So if this were to happen it’d be just a boxing match, or nothing. Boxers may believe they have better hands but only a moron would walk into the octagon with Silva thinking he could get away with only boxing. All that said, I’d love to see this happen. High risk, high reward for Dana White but i think he’ll be happy to just rub his nose at the other MMA orgs than take a chance of having one of his best fighters lose to an over-the-hill boxer.

i dont really like andersons chances in this one. if its a 12 round boxing match, i see it going to a decision, with roy taking it. i think this would only be a good idea if there was a match in the boxing ring and then a match in the octagon, b/c roy will get easily submitted so the boxing loss wont look so bad for anderson.

I dont know, I think he might do it.

If the UFC could somehow put on this fight as a main event after about 9 fights, it would be pretty cool. Maybe even have the fight in the Octogon but with boxing rules. Or maybe build a special cage that they could convert to a ring in about 30 minutes or so.

Dan has been running around saying that Anderson Silva is the best pound per pound mma fighter in the world. He still would be if he lost to Roy Jones Jr. But, if he won Dana would be all about promoting him as the #1 fighter in the world period.

How is a terrible idea when the UFC was created it was to see who has the best fight discipline..Let them fight, if Dana is going to let Lesner come in to the UFC, and once entertainted the idea of Kurt Angle…So let Silva fight him, the downside is I think Roy Jones would maybe school him in Boxing even on the downside of his career..In addition to that what makes Silva standup so good is he can clinch ,Knee and kick which would be elimanated…in a just straight standup fight with a boxer he wouldn’t stand a chance..

I understand your point, but in truth after watching an MMA event, if a boxing fan feels as if MMA fighters are not technical they were never going to enjoy our sport. They carry a blind fear of change.

A “good” showing is not good enough, anything less than a win sets the sport back. And a win will be controversial in that RJJ is far past his prime.

There isn’t enough benefit to MMA. People seem to forget MMA is growing, MMA is a young sport and has come a long way in a very short time. Things will evolve and MMA will continue to grow.

Dana has roots in boxing. He KNOWS Anderson Silva will get beat and beat badly.
I don’t think we’ll see this fight, and Dana will take the blame.
