ProElite.com (SamCaplan.ProElite.com) has learned that EliteXC middleweight champion Robbie Lawler could be on the verge of finalizing a contract extension with the promotion.

ProElite.com has also learned that Lawler is expected to be involved on EliteXC’s inaugural card on CBS, believed to be taking place in May. A formal announcement from CBS in regard to the date of the first card and the fighters involved is expected to be made on Wednesday.

Lawler, 15-4, has been idle since winning the EliteXC middleweight title from Murilo “Ninja” Rua at EliteXC’s “Uprising” event on September 15 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He had been scheduled to defend his ICON Sport middleweight title against Kala Kolohe Hose in December but the fight was canceled after Lawler reportedly sustained a biceps injury while training for the fight.
