March 26, 2008 by Sam Caplan

fight_pics_0021.jpg Elite Xtreme Combat has signed former NFL player Bobby Jones to a contract, ProElite.com (SamCaplan.ProElite.com) has confirmed exclusively through Jones’ manager, Mike Camp.

An undefeated heavyweight with a record of 2-0, Jones first made his MMA debut on August 24, 2007 during a Fight Fest show in Ohio, where he recorded a TKO over Darby Hodge at just 0:34 into round 1. He followed up his successful debut with a second victory this past January when he recorded another TKO in the first round, this time against William Clifford.

Jones is a graduate of Penn State and in addition to lettering in football for the university as an offensive lineman, he was also a member of the wrestling team as a senior. Additionally, Jones was also a high school wrestling champion.

After Penn State, Jones played one season for the New York Giants in 2002. He appeared in 11 games that year but was eventually released. He continued his pro football career with a brief stint in the Arena Football League and was also a high school teacher.

Is this the division of Elite that will have televised fights? If so, it’s a pretty thin resume.

I Guess if this signing makes new’s it means the heavyweight division is very thin indeed.

Low on fights and experience, but huge on marketability. Very good signing for EliteXC.

Go to You Tube and search for Bobby Jones Fight, or type Bobby Jones Wadsworth to see his last fight.

I’ve only seen him fight on youtube, but met him in person on several occasions. This is a big dude…

If his size is any idication of his ability…he’ll do alright in the lower divisions for now, but I think he’ll move up fast.
