Report: Nick Diaz out, Drew Fickett in at EliteXC/Strikeforce

March 26, 2008 by Adam Morgan

nick-diaz2.jpgMMA Weekly is reporting that Nick Diaz is out of his fight on Saturday at EliteXC/Strikeforce: Shamrock vs. Cung Le with Jae Suk Lim for undisclosed reasons. Drew Fickett, who was originally scheduled to fight Jake Shields, will step in for Diaz and fight Lim in a bout that will take place at 170 lbs.

The only feasible thing left to happen to this card is Frank Shamrock pulling out due to some kind of injury. There’s been a black cloud over this event for a couple of weeks now and this is hopefully the last change that will have to be made. Fighters have been pulling out due to injury, undisclosed reasons, etc. for the last couple of weeks now.

All in all, EliteXC and Strikeforce have done a good job scrambling to find opponents when they have had to and being flexible with situations that sometimes inevitably arise with fighters.

“Undisclosed reasons” seems to translate to “we want Diaz to fight on our May 31st card.”

    I’m not saying, I’m just saying…

really, everyone needs to stop pulling off this card, hell im going to watch it now simply for the Shamrock v Le fight, i was kinda looking forward to watching Diaz fight owell, hopefully there are some all around good fights to keep entertained til the main event… cheers

“Undisclosed reasons” being related to his drug use. This card has turned into a complete disaster.

Wow, this card just keeps taking hits. I was really looking forward to the whole card a month or so ago, now it’s basically Shamrock-Le. Hopefully Gilbert gets a good fight from his opponent at least.

I assume this means they want Diaz on the CBS card, which makes complete sense. They haev invested a ton in him, and he is the poster boy for the 160lb division, regardless of the title. they need him ont he televised card. He will bring viewers back to another show with his exciting fighting style and his exciting speaking style. He is a Frank Shamrock in trainign in my opinion. He puts asses in seats.

Sherdog reporting that Nick was taken off the card due to his prescription for marijuana. This is going to be a lawsuit int he making. I assume we won’t see Diaz for a while.

I just read that story..wow. Diaz needs to decide if he wants to get high or fight.

Gary Shaw’s son Jared has already stated that Diaz will next fight on the June 14 card in Hawaii. More and more, EliteXC makes no sense.

  9. Evan on March 27th, 2008 9:18 am

But if Diaz somehow gets suspended by the CSAC and EliteXC allows him to fight in Hawaii they would cause problems.
