Alot of instructors are good, but they lack the personal respect of their students. With Jared you know you will get your ass kicked hard but you will be a tough SOB if you stick with it. You also know that your instructor has belief in you and wants you to succeed. Jared's, and BJJU's class, shows in his decision not to say who those bogus schools are. Oh, and Wilson, just sick man. Im twice his size and rolled with him for 2 rounds once. I am not really sure how he did it becuase I didnt see it but in the span of 18 seconds I was in 2 armbars and a rear naked. Sport training and practical self defense are two different things. A good martial artist will be prepared to fight in any situation whether it is standing or on the ground. But he will also, at least attempt to, control where the fight goes based on the situation and the environment. If you can gurantee that you will only be attacked by one person on a soft surface and your assailant will be wearing a gi then then bjj is all you should train. I'm not trying to bash bjj, there are some very good principles in it. But don't let yourself be categorized with the so called karate senseis who are just as fake as the bjj teachers Jared mentioned. A good martial artist sees the value in every style and doesn't limit himself by the dogma of the system he trains under. There is good in every martial art, there are weaknesses in every martial art. Bashing one is no more respectable than bashing bjj.
