Gary Shaw addresses CSAC’s decision to remove Nick Diaz from EliteXC/Strikeforce card
During the EliteXC/Strikeforce press conference today, President of EliteXC’s Live Events division Gary Shaw, addressed the California State Athletic Commission’s decision to pull Nick Diaz out of his scheduled fight with Jae Suk Lim at the EliteXC/Strikeforce event on Saturday.
Showing little restraint, Shaw contradicted CSAC executive director Armando Garcia’s assertion that Diaz’s medicals were late. According to Shaw, Diaz was the first fighter on the card to have his medicals submitted. Shaw said that Diaz was apparently cleared either two or two and a half weeks ago.
In taking Diaz off the card, Shaw said that Garcia had “overstepped” his bounds. He stated that Diaz was never tested for drugs and never tested positive. Shaw added that Garcia is not currently taking his calls.
Diaz himself made an appearance and addressed the fighters and media. He issued a heartfelt apology for not being able to appear as scheduled. He clarified his position by indicating that he was only being honest with the commission, and that he has legal permission to use the marijuana to treat Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder conditions. Diaz informed the audience that it was his intent to test clean.
Shaw was also asked about legal action against the commission and said he will have his attorneys look into it. He did state that he believes that Diaz has a civil case. Shaw also added that Diaz will fight on June 14th in Hawaii.

his intent was to test clean, thats good intent, unfortunately we will have to wait til june 14th to see him fight, just put the bong down for a bit so u can fight, he is soo talented but adhd isnt worth losing the opritunity to fight….. imo
Notice Diaz is slated to fight next in the unregulated state of Hawaii as opposed to the May 31st card in New Jersey under NJACB sanctioning.
Ok, forgive me but Nick is so full of it with this medical pot it’s amazing. I have ADHD as well, and I’m not talking about a minor case either. But this give you SIMULANTS to treat it Aderall or Ritilan. The dopamine receptors in the head of an ADHD person are messed up so that you transport too much to start and then suffer a deficiency from it. So you need a stimulant to open up the receptors and produce more. Pot doesn’t do any of that. In fact studies done with pot users that claim to be ADHD think it’s harder for them to learn is they smoke. While it’s true that some shrinks are lobbying Congress to get it off the banned list it’s SO THEY CAN STUDY IT, not because they have any confirmed head shrinker value.
Forgive my rant but it really really pisses me off when I hear so many people be like “I have ADHD so blah blah blah.” 3-4% of the world has it, it’s actually pretty rare in adults. Most kids that are told they have it really don’t, they are just kids.
So, in short, you’re full of it Nick and as much as I enjoy watching you fight, I’m glad you aren’t getting away with this complete and total BS excuse.
i know this comment has no relevance to the story
but gary shaw is such a douche
he reminds me one of those sleazy, greasy, creeps that
leers at girls in clubs and whispers in their ear “your sexy”
