I think if Frank would have taken this fight a little more seriously, rather than clowning around so much in begining, he would have faired much better. It was fun to watch him taunt Cung but I think all that did was make Cung that much more focused. When Frank was aggresively moving forward with flying fists, Cung was off his game and Frank could have taken him, hence Cung's big fat lip. But when clowning around and allowing Cung to set and time his kicks, Frank just found himself in defense mode. At the end of the 3rd round, Frank really needed a break and .......he got one. Heal your arm Frank, come back and kick that little kid from Vietnam with Guns ablazin, azz.

Lee vs. Misaki... Sweet. Strikeforce belt is coming to Japan...

OH WAIT, WAIT

Where is Jorge Santiago? who is the winner of the last tournament? Why his name is not coming first for the title shot?

He showed great performances in his last 3 fights against Jeremy Horn, Salmon and Plangley

I thought the fight was awesome to watch, but like everyone else who saw it, I have to seriously question Frank's gameplan. It was obvious within the first few minutes that Cung was the superior striker. Frank gave it an effort standing, but should have switched gears, closed the distance, and gone for the takedown.

No one would have cared that he promised a stand-up war if he had decided to take it to where he is at his best (on the ground) to win the fight. If he wants to keep the Frank Shamrock mystique while promoting his "brand", then he needs to win, not just put on exciting fights which are tactically stupid. That is the sign of a true competitor who likes to challenge and test himself, but not the sign of an intelligent fighter.

Maybe I'm from the old school with this statement, but I would rather see a great fighter look bad and win than look great and lose. Winning is still the most important aspect of any sport to me.

One of the most entertaining fights I've ever seen, that's for sure, and the crowd was as riled up as I've ever seen at an mma event. I was ten miles from the HP Pavilion and didn't end up getting to see it live. Bummer.

However.... Fight of the Year should probably be reserved for a more technical battle where both fighters play to their strengths and it's a back and forth war. Frank's gameplan was very confusing and he seemed to pass up at least 2 "blood in the water" moments where someone like Chuck would have put Cung away.

I think Slice's reception for the San Jose crowd would have been much more recieved if he didn't call it "San Fran"

Aside from that. the 3rd round was very reminiscent of the 2nd round between Liddell/Silva.

"The injury took place towards the end of the third and final round. Le threw a high kick that grazed Shamrock’s head that ultimately landed on Shamrock’s upper arm."

Dave Meltzer is reporting on Yahoo that it's his right forearm that's having a plate put in it, not his upper left arm. The fact that he had his right arm in a sling after the fight supports this.

It was likely this kick that broke the arm: http://www.fightreport.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/cung-le_frank-shamrock_b.gif

You can even see Frank shake it right afterwards.
