props to CHAEL SONNEN … he was handling Filho and he dismantled Baker(which he should have) … is this guy at the top of the heap as far as his wrestling goes ? compared to hughes? koschek? where does his wrestling fall in the mix with these well-established grapplers?

Yeah.. he was a collegiate all american for oregon state, and an alternate for the olympics in 2000,,, not sure about 2004. He did trained with couture and henderson during his olympic run for a few months. I don’t know much more about his wrestling, I searched a little but couldn’t come up with exact answers.

CHAEL SHONNEN would be the guy on my list, he won’t gas like the older Henderson and Shonnen’s wrestling is at the elite level. 1st Shonnen must beat Filho, in the rematch. 2ndly would the UFC pull a Champion from the WEC?

Thats the crazy thing about the UFC contracts. If he keeps winning; He can’t (legally) leave. Thats why Fedor didn’t sign with the UFC and why a lot of fighters have been leaving them (Champion clause being one of the many stipulations).

My personal opinion is that Silva didn’t care much about the challenge of fighting a Roy Jones, he is much more interested in the type of pay day that comes with it. Imagine you are him right now; everybody is calling you the best pound for pound fighter in the world, you are whooping everyones ass, yet you are making pennies compared to a lot of boxers (and even making much less than a lot of inferior MMA fighters). And its not like its 1999, where fighters like Frank Shamrock wanted the big paydays but the money simply wasn’t out there. There is a lot of money being made right now by a very small number of people.

I don’t know, I can’t really get up for the Okami fight. I have read or heard all the arguments for why he is a viable threat, but I don’t buy it. Can he beat Silva? Sure, anybody can be beat (slater is right). But forgive me when I don’t share the interests of others regarding a fight between Silva (who just destroyed one of the best fighters of all time) and Okami (who lost to a guy that silva destroyed twice). Okami, as far as I can tell, doesn’t have the stand up to hang with Silva for any extended period of time, nor the ground skills to submit him. His only hope is too lay n pray, which is hard to do for 25 minutes.

well, i thought Silva/Jones Jr. was stupid from the get-go..
i would’ve had Jones winning that fight by far [in a Boxing match]
why would Anderson even take a chance at tarnishing what he’s built up in the last few years..

and Derek B.,
i can’t say the same..
Silva/Okami is a really interesting fight to me.. because.. obviously Anderson does not credit Okami for his previous win against him, because of the circumstances [i don't either]
so that’s bad blood.. plus, you can tell Anderson just cringes when they mention Okami in interviews.. he doesn’t even want to talk about that fight or Okami..
plus, i don’t know but i don’t see Anderson finishing Okami in the devistating fashion that he did Franklin, Hendo, Marquardt..
in those fights, Silva landed amazing strikes [most efficiently to the body, which were the strikes that ultimately gave him the wins over Rich and Hendo]
for some reason i don’t see Okami getting completely broken by the body shots.. and i can’t see him getting brutally KO’d or anything..
some people may call me crazy, but i would give Okami more of a shot than i gave Franklin or maybe even Hendo in this fight..
idk.. i would say that would be a decision or a late sub..

UFC is not gonna take the chance of killing their golden goose. It makes no sense for them at all as far as I can see. UFC is smart to leave the freak shows to their competitors. They’re good at it .
With everyone already getting network deals UFC has to have a clear-cut 24 carat mma identity to secure the best deal…. and they most likely will, eventually.
Not to mention they wouldn’t even go the extra mile to make the most obvious arguably most desirable fight in the history (or recent history) of mma- Randy/Fedor
- Plus, Dana would have to deal with the “scumbag boxing promoters” ….

I hate this posturing of Anderson Silva as a God. I mean, I love the guy as a fighter, he’s amazing to watch, and as far as I can tell he’s damn near unstoppable, but for crap’s sake he isn’t invincible. All this talk about who they can feasibly pit him against next, it just gets under my skin. If it’s a question of who they can market as a viable threat to Silva to generate a GOOD PAYDAY, then fine. There are only a few big names left w/in the organization that’ll allow the UFC to make a good case. But come on. Any given Sunday, ya know? Matt Serra beat GSP. Someone will take Anderson Silva’s head off. Someone will take Fedor’s head off. Someone will cream your favorite fighter. Nature of the beast.

I can understand Dana’s position, but it’s still disappointing. In my opinion this was a great chance to put MMA on the map. Sure Silva would of been owned terribly, but so what? it’s still a great fight no matter how you slice it.
