    Finally a good stacked free card to watch. Comon Houston!!!

  2. HexRei on April 1st, 2008 7:45 pm

    i am so stoked for this card!!!!

  3. canadianfightfan on April 1st, 2008 7:46 pm

    Glad everyone made weight, good card! Lots of LW which should mean exciting fights! Does anyone think that because it’s a 3hr show we might get even more fights? Diaz v Pelligrino could be fight of the night! Stoked!!
    On a side note i just got my ADD “prescription” so I will be nice and relaxed for the fights….

  4. Michael Huckaby on April 1st, 2008 8:20 pm

    We should see an extra fight or two.

    The only problem is you can only look at that main card and only one fight (Alexander/Irvin) really screams “no way we’re going to decision.” The rest have a chance. It’s all about how they alot time and the results of the prelims. Unlike WEC on Versus they can’t end their show at 9:35 just because that’s when the fights end. If you want more fights just root for more semi-early finishes.

  5. Luxas on April 1st, 2008 8:26 pm

    Does anyone know if there’s any video or pics of the weigh-ins?

  6. HexRei on April 1st, 2008 9:07 pm

    michael, you really think only another fight or two? aren’t the shows normally like 1/12 or 2 hours? i think we could see 3 or 4 more of the preliminary bouts possibly.

  7. Huckaby on April 1st, 2008 9:20 pm

    I guess it’s a possibility, but don’t forget the power of hours of advertisements.

  8. paddiosf on April 1st, 2008 9:32 pm

    it’s amazing how deep the UFC ranks are with a preliminary fights with Guida,Thomas and former TUF members not even being shown..it’s now to the point that if you don’t win or at least have good exciting fights your not going to be on TV….

  9. d-train on April 1st, 2008 11:04 pm

    so have they offically moved gray vs frankie to the main card or is it still just a swing bout

  10. Rich S. on April 1st, 2008 11:53 pm

    i’m sayin’ Ken-Flo/J-Lau might be a FOTY candidate when it’s all said and done.. it depends on how long the bout is.. and how it ends.. but.. i know it has the capability..

    and Diaz/Pellegrino.. ohhhhh man i can’t wait..

    i’m thinkin’ Houston’s gonna pick up a “W”… him and Irvin both have good hands.. but Irvin has a little bit of a chin.. idk.. some might say this one’s a given.. but it’s hard for me to decide..

    i wanna see some wins from: sotiropulous, guida, and maynard..

    oh.. and it’s suuuuuuuuuch a shaaaaame that Neer/Thomas is on the undercard.. i’d be glad to watch that as a main event any day.. these guys are both absolutely amazing.. it ought to be brilliant.. i wanna see some good JJ rolling.. but.. i’ll like this fight no matter where it goes.. i only hope we get to see it!!

    amazing, amazing card!!

    Hey, How about anyone who reads this picks all the fights and after tomorrow night we see who did the best. George Sotiripoulis over Roman Mitchyan via Sub Rd 1 Kimura
    Marcus Aurelio over Ryan Roberts via Unanimous Decision (30-27 x 3)
    Josh Neer over Din Thomas via Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
    Clay Guida over Sammy Schiavo via KO Rd 1
    Manvel Gamburyan over J. Cox via Unan. Decision 29-28, 29-28, 30-27

    I was there this afternoon and it was pretty interesting. Ken-Flo, Alexander, and Guida got the biggest cheers, with Guida getting the most love. Guida barely made weight, and had to exhale, take off his shorts, and pray to lose a 1/2 lb. Din Thomas’s corner, Yves Edwards, also got tons of love - maybe the most of everyone. He looked “rolled up”, if you know what I mean.

    Random notes:
    Anthony Johnson is a f*cking specimen - he looked water-free; totally chiseled like a Florida Gator.
    Karo looked pudgy, and even then had a somewhat dicey weigh in - he clearly exhaled as much as possible to make sure he lost the last 1/2 lb before getting on the scale.
    Houston’s surgery scar is very, very noticeable in person. His left side has a weird “fold” in the abdomen area.
    Matt Hughes - I wanted to hate him, but he he was really nice in person and spent significant time with the fans.

    Arianny and Edith - dear god, why wasn’t I born better looking, wealthy, and/or famous?

    The venue in CO is very small and intimate, and the weigh ins had a very informal “Karate Kid” tournament feel, complete with shitty mics and folding chairs. I’m glad I picked a “regional” show for my first event, as the crowd was almost entirely earnest fans and regular folks - no hangers on or superficial Vegas doucgebags.

    Zane, I pretty much agree with all your picks haha, the only one I think may go differently than your predictions is the Diaz/Pellegrino fight. I don’t have a lot of confidence in Diaz to start with (I don’t like junkies.) but I’m still up on the fence on whether he’s really a good fighter or whether his opponents have just failed to pay attention when the fight goes to the ground.

  14. A.C Slater on April 2nd, 2008 10:09 am

    Diaz is a junkie?
    Tell me you aren’t referring to his brother’s recent mary jane troubles.

  15. Rich S. on April 2nd, 2008 10:56 am

    ya,
    guida’s gonne be fighting with a whole nother level of intensity.. i read a recent interview of him.. and he seems more fired up than ever..

  16. Patrick on April 2nd, 2008 2:14 pm

    Slater, both of them are ridiculous pot heads.

  17. A.C Slater on April 2nd, 2008 3:21 pm

    potheads, sure, but junkie is a bit harsh, no?
    Ah, well.
    Either way, they both have ridiculous jits.

  18. Jiu-Jitsu Guy on April 2nd, 2008 4:15 pm

    “Slater, both of them are ridiculous pot heads.”

    WHO CARES? There are a ton of guys in martial arts who do this, and guess what fool? They are in great shape and will not die from liver cancer like your b*tch for a friend.

    There was a study done by UCLA recently that found no link between cancer and 420. In fact, a small therapeutic effect. This plant is not bad for you. Alcohol is so much worse you have no idea.

    Only morons have a problem with 420. I can’t do it, but wish I could. :)

    This is a sick card. I want to see Karo and Nate win, and then Houston get his ass jiu-jitsu’d and smashed on the ground. He needs to pay again for not having a ground game.

  19. Jiu-Jitsu Guy on April 2nd, 2008 4:17 pm

    Zach,

    No one cares what you think. Save it.

  20. Patrick on April 2nd, 2008 4:42 pm

    You jump to a lot of conclusions pretty fast there bud.

    What friend are you talking about that’s going to die of liver cancer?

    I don’t drink, smoke, take drugs, or poison my body with crap like the Diaz bros and some other people. I’m in great shape by the way, and unlike the Diaz brothers my lungs aren’t damaged through constant smoke inhalation.

    I care when people are accessing illegal substances because it creates a huge problem within a society of substance abuse and supports criminal activity. You’ve either been ridiculously sheltered all your life or you’re a scumbag if you don’t think things like marijuana are a baseline cause for more serious societal problems.

    Also, before you call anyone a moron maybe you should check your ego and look some stuff up:

    University of Washington and the National Institute on Drug Abuse:

    Short-Term Effects
    The short-term effects of marijuana include:

    * Distorted perception (sights, sounds, time, touch)
    * Problems with memory and learning
    * Loss of coordination
    * Trouble with thinking and problem-solving
    * Increased heart rate, reduced blood pressure

    Sometimes marijuana use can also produce anxiety, fear, distrust, or panic.

    Effects on the Brain
    The active ingredient in marijuana, delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, acts on cannabinoid receptors on nerve cells and influences the activity of those cells. Some brain areas have many cannabinoid receptors, but other areas of the brain have few or none at all. Many cannabinoid receptors are found in the parts of the brain that influence pleasure, memory, thought, concentration, sensory and time perception, and coordinated movement.

    When high doses of marijuana are used, usually when eaten in food rather than smoked, users can experience the following symptoms:

    * Hallucinations
    * Delusions
    * Impaired memory
    * Disorientation

    Effects on the Heart
    Within a few minutes after smoking marijuana, the heart begins beating more rapidly and the blood pressure drops. Marijuana can cause the heart beat to increase by 20 to 50 beats per minute, and can increase even more if other drugs are used at the same time.

    Because of the lower blood pressure and higher heart rate, researchers found that users’ risk for a heart attack is four times higher within the first hour after smoking marijuana.

    Effects on the Lungs
    Smoking marijuana, even infrequently, can cause burning and stinging of the mouth and throat, and cause heavy coughing. Scientists have found that regular marijuana smokers can experience the same respiratory problems as tobacco smokers do, including:

    * Daily cough and phlegm production
    * More frequent acute chest illnesses
    * Increased risk of lung infections
    * Obstructed airways

    Marijuana contains more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than tobacco smoke and because marijuana smokers usually inhale deeper and hold the smoke in their lungs longer than tobacco smokers, their lungs are exposed to those carcinogenic properties longer.

    One study found that marijuana smokers were three times more likely to develop cancer of the head or neck than non-smokers. Many researchers believe than smoking marijuana is overall more harmful to the lungs than smoking tobacco.

    Other Health Effects
    Research indicates that THC impairs the body’s immune system from fighting disease, which can cause a wide variety of health problems. One study found that marijuana actually inhibited the disease-preventing actions of key immune cells. Another study found that THC increased the risk of developing bacterial infections and tumors.

    Effects of Exposure During Pregnancy
    Several studies have found that children born to mothers who used marijuana during pregnancy exhibit some problems with neurological development. According to those studies, prenatal marijuana exposure can cause:

    * Altered responses to visual stimuli
    * Increased tremulousness
    * Problems with sustained attention and memory
    * Poor problem-solving skills

    Think before you type next time or don’t type at all.

  21. Jiu-Jitsu Guy on April 2nd, 2008 6:00 pm

    I’m so impressed with your Wikipedia copy and paste job. Much of what you wrote has not be proven AT ALL. In fact, look up the UCLA study saying 420 DOES NOT INCREASE THE LIKELIHOOD OF LUNG CANCER. I also enjoyed how you it said “one study” in a lot of them. I won’t go into my background, but I can own you on a lot of those points.

    Bottom line is this; unless you are a bozo while doing it then you are fine. Only a moron would do it pregnant, etc. You also cited a lot of SHORT-TERM examples. No sh*t it does some of those, but who cares if it goes away the next day?

    Oh by the way, see all the positive benefits including creativity. Just ask Eddie Bravo about that one. I know this first hand, as I am sick at what I do because some of it was developed 420′ing. Say hello to the history books while suckers like you are lost in this world doing what everyone else does. BORING!

    Nate is going to submit his next victim tonight just for you buddy.

  22. Patrick on April 2nd, 2008 6:22 pm

    It isn’t from wiki.

    You say to look at a UCLA study like it absolutely proves anything… guess what? What I pasted there is from a study done by the University of Washington and the Government. Don’t try to say that one study is more statistically significant or valid than another if you don’t have the data to back that up.

    You enjoyed how I it said? Learn to proof read. I don’t give two cents about your background kid, you can pull up as many pro-pot bias studies as you want, I’m sure I can find an equivalent amount refuting those points.

    Within what I pasted “short term” effects are listed, not all of those effects listed within that paste are short term, check your reading comprehension again.

    You may think you’re “sick” at what you’re doing, but guess what? You’ll never know what could have been had you not done drugs and poisoned your body. You can’t positively say one way or the other what could have been.

    “Say hello to the history books while suckers like you etc etc…” What the hell are you even saying, you’re typing up sentences that don’t link to each other in any way, maybe all that pot has hurt your ability to write up anything with sense in it.

    None of what you’re saying is refuting my point that Diaz is a pothead by the way.

    Feel free to “own” away, smokers are jokers. I’ll keep my body clean, you can keep poisoning yours, but don’t try to argue that there aren’t negative side effects from poisoning yourself.

  23. Patrick on April 2nd, 2008 6:24 pm

    Here’s some more for you:

    Reuters reported on a study by British researchers last week linking marijuana to the developing of psychotic illnesses (such as schizophrenia) later in life. The study showed that “marijuana users had a 41 percent increased chance of developing psychosis marked by symptoms of hallucinations or delusions later in life than those who never used the drug.” Marijuana has also been linked to a greater risk of depression, according to “The American Journal of Psychiatry.”

  24. Rich S. on April 2nd, 2008 11:01 pm

    “I know this first hand, as I am sick at what I do because some of it was developed 420?ing”

    should you be doing that?
    aren’t you a doctor?

    ohhh wait.. that was probably one of your lies..
