Rumor: Thiago Alves In Line For Title Shot Behind Jon Fitch
That’s the word according to Thiago Alves himself. From an MMAJunkie.com report on Alves’ appearance on TAGG Radio:
“Right now I heard I’m right behind Jon Fitch,” Alves said. “That’s what (UFC matchmaker) Joe Silva told me.”
Coming off a stunning knockout of Karo Parisyan at UFN 13, Alves has jumped to second in line for a chance at the welterweight belt. The long-debated positioning of Pariysan and Fitch was settled when Fitch was tabbed a few weeks ago for the first shot at the belt after the rematch between Georges St. Pierre and Matt Serra on April 19 at UFC 83. Parisyan and Alves were the popular choices to take the third slot and Alves’ definitive victory cemented his status as number three on the chart.

Even though Alves beat Parisyan, I still think that if the UFC doesn’t give Parisyan a title shot soon. They are going to lose him to a rival organization.

After Karo’s preformance against Thiago i woundn’t be suprized if the UFC let him go.
So much for Alves being a lay-up!

#2 you have to be joking, karo has a great record and was on a 3 win streak before that loss. Additionally the stoppage was questionable. Dana wouldn’t let him go over that, he’s got talent and he’s pretty recognizable now thanks to his infamous TUF appearance.

So Mikey, where else is Karo going to find a ww division?
Japan? No.
Elite
Strikeforce
RoTR
Nope.
There’s no other “real” ww division out there so Karo’s stuff with the UFC.

Bummer for Karo but he’s still only one big win from being more or less next in line. Given his history (especially if Serra wins, not likely, but definitely possible) if he were to take down someone like Kos in impressive fashion, he would be back in line to make a case for a title shot.

I think he hurt his chances by ducking Fitch…imagine if he had decided to take that fight…it may have even been an easier matchup stylistically…who knows…styles make fights…now he will have to wait…oh the waiting game sucks!

Yeah just like AA and Karo.
Until there is offical rankings its up to the UfC.
Fighters beg for title shots after their fights so obviously there is more to it than just earning a title shot.
Its all about money, marketing and if they want to see you as champion.
Sounds negative but am I wrong?.

Sucks to be Karo, work your way up for another 2 more years then maybe you’ll get a shot.
