Interview with Dana White on Hardcore Sports Radio. He pumps up GSP vs. Serra II and then rants on Tim Sylvia, Fedor, his competitors!
Mad props to BloodyElbow for finding this.
Check out the latest UFC 83 content on Five Ounces of Pain.
Definitley worth watching. Pretty sure Dana didn’t swear throughout the whole thing… thats like 30 minutes without dana swearing, so that’s enough reason to watch right there.
Very good viewing.
Agree or Disagree: 0 0
short summary for those at work and can’t view it?
Seems to be the same stuff he says on every other interview…I knew his answers before he gave them…
“I eat sleep mma”
“Cuban is a businessman, this is all I do”
“Fedor…no one knows who Fedor is”
Then discredit Silvia to blunt the effect of a top heavyweight leaving and in turn the significance of a Fedor fight.
Calculated damage control that was predictable to say the least.
Damnit!!! I’m 6:00 mins into the 2nd video and Dana is winning me over! DAMN YOU DANA!! I want to hate you but your making sense, as biased as it might be it’s making sense!
Dana White: Nobody is kicking my ass in MMA ever….I love this arrogance…I think the Romans felt the same way…I hope history repeats itself
The Romans reigned for kinda a long time…like you know even more than one hundred years…
“I think the Romans felt the same way…I hope history repeats itself”
You think the people in the UFC are going to be hit by plagues or something?
7:48 into the third video… Thanks Dana, I don’t like you again.
I love watching Dana interviews. He’s always so passionate spewing the typical promoter bs For anybody unfamiliar with Hardcore Sports Radio, I recommend checking out Mauro Ranallo’s show as well as Gabriel Morency’s. Always a good listen.
poor fedor…no respect.
Just funny because Dana is upset with the whole Red Devil team. The more he talks about Fedor the bigger his name gets. Every time he mentions Fedor another MMA fan who doens’t know who he is Googles him or youtubes him to see what he’s all about. Dana knows what he is doing..he’s building him up secretly.
Also, Dana really would like to get his hands on some of the red devil fighters, but that will probably not happen if he keeps on bad mouthing Fedor like that.
Dana speaks the truth as always.
To bad the interview wasn’t done by someone who knows something about MMA, who cares about the odds?
just when i start to like dana again he ruins it. every mma fan knows who fedor is. true he needs to have a top level fight soon to regain some respect but if you “cant pick him out of a lineup” (dumbass interviewer) then your not a real mma fan. if all the sudden u decided to get drunk and pay for 2 ufc ppvs doesnt make you an expert on the subject. but dana loses all credibility when he starts to knock fedors popularity or skills. booo!
How many of the UFC fans that don’t know who Fedor is knew who Anderson Silva,GSP,Noguiera or Huerta were before they fought in the UFC?
“How many of the UFC fans that don’t know who Fedor is knew who Anderson Silva,GSP,Noguiera or Huerta were before they fought in the UFC?”
Exactly. Dana is just saying that stuff right now because he doesn’t have Fedor. If he did, he would still have to pump a hell of a lot of money into promoting him but his oppinions would change.
I think of the whole Fedor thing like this: Imagine if you have never seen a Pride fight… You total MMA exposure is through the UFC/IFL/WEC/EliteXC… would you still think Fedor is a God? Probably not. And this is the reality for the large majority of North American MMA fans.
The truth is Fedor is nowhere near the draw (yet) in North America as Randy Coture or Chuck Lidell or ever Forrest Griffen. And until Fedor starts fighting some major talent again, no one except us “Hardcore” fans will give Fedor the respect he deserves. Hopefully him fighting Tim will help get him to mainstream acceptance.
(Sorry for the long post.)
How many of the UFC fans that don’t know who Fedor is knew who Anderson Silva,GSP,Noguiera or Huerta were before they fought in the UFC?”
I AGREE TO A POINT
but i do have to say i respect dana and what he has done for the sport, and i actually like the guy from a fan prospective. but seriously Fedor is a huge name for the true mma fans such as us, but he is a nobody to the current fans of the sport or to the (noobies or tuffers) as we have referred to them so many times, but the fact of the matter is 85% of the current mma fanbase is related to the tuf series so therefore alot huger percentage of the fanbase do not know who he is.
also fedor has fought cro-cop= completely tanked in the ufc
big nog= hasnt looked that great in the ufc
i hope tim sylvia beats his ass, just so we all stop hearing how great the truly unproven LB FOR LB fighter in the world is
White didn’t trash talk Fedor. He simply pointed out that Fedor hasn’t had a serious fight in years, so many recent fans don’t know him. He also pointed out in a complimentary fashion how enthusiastic the fans are. He didn’t identify any blogs by name, but he talked about blogs as proof of how dedicated the fans are. One of the points he made about blogs is that there are lots of hardcore fans who know about Fedor, but outside the blogosphere, Fedor’s name recognition falls off sharply.
That point is valid, and plenty of bloggers have made it on 5 oz’s. The fact that White made it in the interview doesn’t make it less accurate.
His statements about UFC and its dominance in MMA are true, too. And since UFC has such huge brand recognition, and assuming he doesn’t care about anything other than MMA/UFC, it will be damn difficult for a competitor to overtake UFC. UFC established itself early, and everybody else has to play catch up.
White tends to state things in a dramatic or bombastic way, but he’s usually right about the facts. What misstatements did he make in the interview? If none, you have to tip your hat to him, because he’s made MMA huge, he’s going to make it bigger, and he’s made UFC the biggest player. As a MMA fan, that works for me.
That host is fantastic!
He does err every once in a while but is mostly on point!
GSP HAS fought in his hometown/country with UCC/TKO!
He fought like 7 or 8 times before he joined the UFC, and all of those we’re in Quebec, if not Montreal
Dana White is an idiot. Nobody would care if we signed Fedor… ya, thats why he tried SO hard to sign him. He sounds like a jilted schoolboy. He says that his competition is losing money, and then blasts early critics who said he was losing money. He just doesn’t remember what he says from one moment to the next. I see a day coming when the cross promotions are making big money, and the UFC will keep it’s fighters from fighting the other great fighters.
Who wont watch Fedor vs Sylvia?.
You know why they let Tim go…because Tim wanted more money, Dana didn’t want to give it to him and he also couldn’t afford to have another AA undercard type incident for Tim’s last fight.
Dana saying that other organisations are “…like rats with cheese…” makes me think that he has just got his head up his own ass. He acts like MMA is his or that others are somehow stealing his idea (what a wanker!).
Dana you are a buisness man who took over a buisness and made it successful, not a MMA messiah. You didn’t start MMA and you wern’t even there when it was first taking off, I mean you never even fought in MMA. I hope that people can see through your marketing BS and realise money is your master.
The best thing for MMA would be if Fedor absolutely F*CKED Tim up, then every body in North America would say who the hell is that dude? and start watching more and more of other organisations promotions, just to take the UFC and Dana down off their high horses.
# 21 Queso “I see a day coming when the cross promotions are making big money, and the UFC will keep it’s fighters from fighting the other great fighters.” thats been happening for years. All big name UFC fighters are on exclusive contracts. The reason being that the UFC can’t afford to have any of their “great fighters” lose to other organisations fighters, because that would promote the other organisation greatly.
#18 mike wolfe “White didn’t trash talk Fedor” …um yes he did. What do you call it when he says nobody cares about Fedor, that is disrespectful. He tried to sign Fedor and failed so now he tries to put him down.
“What misstatements did he make in the interview?” He kept saying Fedor hasn’t fought since 2005.
He fought 2006(Mark Coleman and Mark Hunt.), 2007(Matt Lindland.)and last time he fought it was already 2008 in some countries. Its also funny that you say “Fedor hasn’t had a serious fight in years” when Mark Coleman is headlinning a UFC event later this year.
as much as i hate his arrogance and huge ego, i hate to have to admit he made a helluva alot of good points. now i have to have alot more respect for this guy and stop bashing him. should have never watched this lol
also that was a really good interview/show what sirius channel, day/time can we catch that show?
Saying that nobody cares about Fedor isn’t trash talking, imo. White didn’t call him weak or question his character or insult his mother. In context White was making the point that Fedor has been low profile and is unknown to many fans, especially fans who got into MMA in the last few years. I don’t think that’s controversial. Does your average 12 year old NFL fan know Joe Montana or Dan Marino? How about John Elway?
I’d have to go back and listen to the clip again, but I don’t think White said that Fedor hadn’t fought at all. I thought I heard him say that Fedor hadn’t had a serious fight, or words to that effect. My statement was certainly true with regard to Coleman and Hunt, since those fights were several years ago. And by the way, are either of them in the top 10? Not according to this blog. If Fedor is the reigning king of the MMA universe, shouldn’t he fight guys in the top ten? Then we can argue about Lindland and whether that was a serious fight. Is he in the top ten? How does he compare to those who are in the top ten? I don’t think there’s any legitimate argument about the Korean with the pituitary disorder.
“also that was a really good interview/show what sirius channel, day/time can we catch that show?”
Sirius 186 is the radio channel. You can catch the internet feeds at http://www.hardcoresportsradio.com/
great interview, “love dana” for what he has done for the sport, imo if you are classified the hw king or overall lb for lb fighter in the world, you should have to fight nothing but top ten in your weight class or even an up and coming powerhouse, “not freakshows” which is not happening for fedor, he hasnt fought anyone of a true caliber fighter in years including mark coleman or mark hunt, who are 2 other fighters who your tuffers or newbies have never heard of..and come on (lindland looked like shit)he is a middleweight for god sake. as far as you and i ( true MMA fans) we know who they are, but lets be real mark coleman and mark hunt are not the cream of the crop!!!!!!!!
If you think White dosn’t trash talk or put Fedor down you’ve got your head in the sand (or you think the sun shines out of Dana’s…).
If Fedors profile is so low why is Dana constantly asked questions about Fedor? and who dosn’t know about Randys desire to fight Fedor to find out who is the true HW champ. Why would Fedor be worth so much money to sign?. Dana and others say that nobody cares about Fedor but North America and the UFC isn’t the world…remember.
“imo if you are classified the hw king or overall lb for lb fighter in the world, you should have to fight nothing but top ten in your weight class or even an up and coming powerhouse, “not freakshows” which is not happening for fedor…”
Dana and others stop Fedor from fighting the top fighters! if it was up to Fedor he and Randy would have fought years ago as would Tim and Fedor. As soon as Tim was released what happened…he signed to fight Fedor. So think a little…who could Fedor of fought since the MURDER of Pride FC there arn’t to many options as far as free agents go. So blame exclusive contracts and MMA politics for that.
As for Lindland he is top ten (top 5 although middleweight) and he was a late replacment.
The Korean Hong Man Choi is a legit top K1 fighter (despite his size and illness). His size is his best asset.
Mark Hunt was K1 GP champ and beat crocop and Wanderlei Silva in MMA and was probably one of Fedors hardest challenges to date.
As for Coleman if he is not serious competition or well known why is he the main event in the UFC later this year?. I think you will find he is highly decorated, still popular and a bad match up for many.
Its just my opinion but both Mark Coleman and Mark Hunt would beat many top HW’s in the UFC (Kongo, Heath Herring would definatly strugle).
Rofl stupid dana.
fedor hasnt fought this year?.
he fought in Sambo Russian for 4 ppl.
he still fight bro
