MMA on MTV?

150px-mtv_logosvg.pngWhile conducting an interview with former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Marcus Jones for CBSSports.com, the former NFL star revealed that he is next scheduled to fight on May 30 in Atlantic City, N.J.

Jones will be a part of Florida-based World Fighting Championships’ “North vs. South” event at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in a heavyweight clash against Judo standout Hercules Benjamin.

During the interview, Jones indicated that MTV is slated to televise the event.

“…May 30, the WFC has teamed up with MTV and they’re supposed to be putting on a show and I’ll be on that card,” Jones stated during the interview.

FiveOuncesOfPain.com followed up on the revelation and confirmed with the New Jersey Athletic Control Board that MTV is indeed expected to be involved with the show. However, it uncertain what MTV’s exact role will be.

Muay Thai standout Kit Cope is scheduled to headline the show against MMA veteran Dave Cochran. Cope was once featured on MTV’s documentary series “True Life,” so it’s possible that they will be on hand to tape some of the bouts as opposed to doing a live telecast.

    MTV will screw it up.

They will probably start taking phone calls in the middle of the fight or cut away from the action to go to commercial like they did for Pink Floyd on Live8.

probably some ‘true life: i’m a cage fighter’ type thing, where they’re only there to film one person. like ‘tapout’ filming at smaller shows.

either that, or it’ll be on at 3 in the morning on a wednesday.

It’ll probably involve live performances by musical acts with attitudes, like gangster rappers. God help us all.

This will only lead to more preppy faggots at my school walking around with tapout and affliction shirts.

i can honestly say ive only seen about 10 or 15 minutes of mtv in my life–every second excruciating.

i wonder if this could be worse than strikeforce at the playboy mansion…or yamma 1.

definitely not what the sport needs.

    Hercules…Hercules…Hercules!!!

    Sorry.

This could be the worst place to air mma. What a mess MTV is, I would never, never let my kids watch it. Fortunately I don’t have any kids, lol.

Anyone remember when there was another network called MTV that showed music videos?

Hercules Benjamin recently won via TKO (strikes) in Rd 1 at BCX IV in Atlantic City at the Trop. He didn’t utilize any judo throws, just some hard uppercuts and right hooks.

Every Friday night (or was it Saturday?) I was glued to head bangers ball as a wee little lad. Once they did Real World 1 it started going down hill and then completely crashed with TRL.

Hey guys…just to confirm it..My buddy fought, and beat Marcus Jones in there last show in Tampa, go to youtube to watch the video look up danny Perez, but enough with the plug i talked to kit cope about it, and what it is is another true life for kit cope….he told me at the last show, and yeah i doubt that mtv will be invovled with that show because i mean the fighters are good, but trust me theres alot better caliber out there. If you want to confirm what i just said you can hit up Kits myspace.

I grew up watching MTV, from ages 6 to 12 it was MTV or Cartoons.

I am a Tampa guy, and Marcus Jones is a beast. He’s only had 3 pro fights so far (2-1), but the guy is enormous and trains at Gracie Tampa with Rob Kahn (Matt Arroyo, Alan Berube). He is tapped to be one of the future prospects in the HW division. Hope MTV doesn’t make a farce of it ;)
