5 Oz. Exclusive: Carlton Haselrig to fight Joe McCall at May 31 EliteXC show

haselrig12.jpg FiveOuncesOfPain.com has confirmed through multiple sources that former NFL All-Pro offensive lineman and six-time NCAA wrestling champ Carlton Haselrig will face “Cujo” Joe McCall during the undercard of EliteXC’s first-ever CBS show on May 31.

The match completes the seven-bout undercard.

Former Giants fullback Jarrod Bunch and former IFL heavyweight Bryan Vetell had been approached as opponents for Haselrig, however, both camps balked at finalizing an agreement over financial concerns.

The 42-year old Haselrig recently made his MMA debut on April 19 when he defeated another former IFL heavyweight, Shane Ott. Haselrig recorded a TKO victory over Ott at 4:09 of round 1 during a Battle Cage Xtreme card in Atlantic City, N.J.

McCall, 29, is 4-0 and is based in Ohio. According to a January article in the Canton Repository, he is also a correctional officer in addition to being a fighter.

The full 12-bout card for EliteXC “Primetime,” which is scheduled to take place in Newark, N.J. at the Prudential Center, is as follows:

Main Card:

Kimbo Slice vs. James Thompson
Robbie Lawler vs. Scott Smith for the EliteXC middleweight title
Gina Carano vs. Kaitlin Young
Joe Villasenor vs. Phil Baroni
Jon Murphy vs. Brett Rogers (swing bout)

Undercard (to be streamed on ProElite.com):

Chris Liguori vs. Jim Bova
Carlton Haselrig vs. Joe McCall
Nick Serra vs. Matt Makowski
Wilson Reis vs. Justin Robbins
James “Binky” Jones vs. Calvin Kattar

I’m not sure why, but I’m having the damnedest time mustering up any sort of excitement or interest in watching this guy.

The fact that he practices on his wife makes me wonder why he’s promoted on this blog at all…

Brent, so we should be selective in what fighters we cover? I’ve been trying to report the lineup for the 5/31 undercard, and Carlton Haselrig is on it.

He’s got 4 stories on here now and an interview with you where you obliquely reference “off-the-field problems”.

A sad amount of pro sport players are scumbag criminals (and MMA has it’s share), I don’t see the fascination with talking them up.

Brent, you’re an idiot. Carlton lives with his wife and his children to this day.

You seem to be fixated on the assertion that he “practices (MMA) on his wife” and in response to another article that he’s “2-0-0 on his wife”. Let me set the record straight, moron. He has NEVER served jail time for domestic abuse. He has NEVER been arrested for domestic abuse. He did serve time for a threat made in earshot of police against his current wife several years ago. He paid his debt to society.

Now he’s making his entre into MMA and Five Ounces is covering this astonishing athelete’s leap into this sport and his being on the card of the inaugural MMA fight on network TV. Despite you’re obvious axe to grind, this is newsworthy.

Your assinine comment about the “sad amount of pro sport players (being) scumbag criminals” can be easily remedied. Don’t watch. None of these scumbag criminals is holding a gun to your head. Watch the golf channel. Watch tennis. MMA, like boxing, has rough characters. Some have criminal backgrounds. Like Kevin Fergeson, MMA’s new million dollar baby. Like Mike Tyson. Rampage Jackson. George Foreman. Bernard Hopkins, Sonny Liston, Floyd Patterson, Don King, etc.

It’s the sport. Get over it.

Wait, I just figured it out. Brent, is your real name Joe McCall? ;)
