Kimbo Slice to present at Country Music Awards

May 16, 2008 by Adam Morgan

kimbo-forrest.JPG At the very bottom of Josh Gross’ new piece at SI.com there’s a tidbit about the Country Music Awards. Why? Because none other than Kimbo Slice will be presenting an award at the event:

Where’s Kimbo? Yes, the Kimbo Slice. The fighter is presenting at the awards show, but the announcement of his appearance is what I’m here for. I’m already nominating the inevitable YouTube clip for next week’s top five random MMA videos on SI.com. I’m hoping he wears the same shirt that punctuated his appearance on the co-promoted EliteXC/Strikeforce card at the end of March. Now that’s good TV.

Hopefully Kimbo doesn’t wear the shirt that Gross is referencing and instead chooses the pimp ensemble that he’s wearing in the above picture with Vernon Forrest. Also, the only plausible reason I can find for Kimbo being a presenter at the awards show is that it’s on CBS, home to Saturday Night Fights on May 31 so he’s probably going to be there to put a little hype behind the show. Love him or hate him, you can’t deny that the dude is popular.

If you’d like to tune into the CMAs, they are on Sunday on CBS from 8-11 p.m. ET.

Appeal to country fans and the elderly. Sure fire ratings hit for CBS.

Wow, could CBS find an odder place for Kimbo to pop up at?

Hopefully they’ll pan the audience when he’s on stage. The “wtf” expressions will be priceless.

Look, I think Kimbo is a joke that takes us back to the days when Tank Abbott was in the UFC. He will fight a few more quick dive artists like Thompson and then get his ass kicked by a real and complete MMA fighter but you gotta love CBS for not being afraid of their new ‘Mr. T’.
    Country music awards?
Kimbo will be on Letterman by the summer. Guaranteed.

I wish Kimbo invests his money wisely and enjoys the ride.

CBS just bought tech network CNET. Will Kimbo be guesting on their popular podcasts answering us questions about how to dual boot Win XP with Linux?

Slice and actress Kaley Cuoco engaged in this witty banter:

Cuoco: You are absolutely amazing. How did you beat Bo Cantrell in 20 seconds in your mixed martial arts debut?
Slice: I was kind of tired so I did it in actually 19 seconds.
Cuoco: OK I’ve got one more question: How did you get through the metal detectors at the airport?
Slice: No one’s even tried to stop me.

    Hilarious.
