UFC 84 Accumulates $3.7 Million at Gate

May 25, 2008 by Sam Caplan

MMA Weekly is reporting that the UFC gathered a total of $3.7 million at the live gate last night for UFC 84: “Ill Will”.  UFC President Dana White reported the figure at the post-event press conference at The MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.  The event was headlined by a UFC Lightweight Title fight featuring former champ Sean Sherk against the current strap holder B.J. Penn.

Though Zuffa’s most recent efforts for UFC 83: “Serra vs. St. Pierre 2″ pulled together a live gate total of $5 million, the $3.7 for last night’s event makes it the fourth highest grossing MMA event in Nevada’s history.  Live attendance for the event totaled out at 14,773 for the night.

Best card of the year, easily. Easily one of the best since Jan 07. I think this was far better than 79 on new years weekend. Every main card fight was excellent and most of the undercard fights were good.

You know Dana made sure this close to Elite on CBS, that the card would kick ass and be somethign for people to compare EliteXC with.

This card has been planned out for awhile. Longer than EliteXC.

    87 is looking quit good almost like 84 with St.Pierre/Fitch, Karo Parisyan/tba, Florian/Huerta, Danzig/Guida, Lesnar/Herring, Chiek Kongo, and MacDonald/Maia

it look’s like I’m buying this card as well as the Affliction PPV.

I agree Big Fish, I’d put it as the card of the year. I was happy with the amount of fights that were shown.

I’ll second that. It always feels better to get more fights for your PPV $$. And as stated many times, they were all good.

Yoshida looked awesome with the Judo throw and subsequent wicked anaconda choke on Koppenhaver that put him in sleepy time.
