Report: Crunkilton out of Sunday’s WEC show

May 26, 2008 by Sam Caplan

wec-logo2.jpgRich Crunkilton has been forced to withdraw from a planned lightweight bout against Donald Cerrone during World Extreme Cagefighting’s upcoming show scheduled for Sunday, June 1 at the Arco Arena in Sacramento, Calif.

According to MMAWeekly.com, Crunkilton suffered an injury and Cerrone will now face Danny Castillo.

Castillo is a California-based fighter with a perfect 5-0 record, according to Sherdog’s fight finder. He has competed for both the Gladiator Challenge and Palace Fighting Championships promotions.

Cerrone, a top lightweight prospect, has not fought since defeating Kenneth Alexander at WEC 30 in Las Vegas last September. However, the win was ruled a no contest and he was suspended after the Nevada State Athletic Commission announced that Cerrone had tested positive for a diuretic.

This Sunday’s WEC show will air on VERSUS starting at 9 p.m. ET and featuring Urijah Faber defending the WEC featherweight title against former UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver.

Castillo seems like a worthy opponent. This fight would have been better with the proven Richard Crunklton but I think this gives Castillo a chance to put on as good show on TV.

None of this other crap even matters. It’s Faber v. Pulver — Featherweight Armageddon!!!!

Oh, and Jens is in big trouble when this fight hits the ground. I like the guy, but short of a punch on the feet I don’t see how he wins this one. Uriah is as bad ass as he is pretty.
