ufc69inTX – Wrong. Gina will be giving up a part of her purse for not making weight. Confirmed by Nick Lembo of the NJACB over on Junkie. The EliteXC contracted wight was 140.

EliteXC “creates” a weight class just for her, and she can’t make the weight. Should have just kept her at 145 like the rest of MMA. But EliteXC like to do things their way.

    no it isn’t.

it is 140, she did NOT make weight and the NJSAC awarded Young a percentage of Gina’s purse.

Gina, it sucks but seriously… learn to cut weight properly (yes I understand it’s harder for women to cut weight, guess what… deal with it and prepare for that possibility?). You can be paraded around all the time as the “face of women’s mma” even if you don’t want to be that “face” but if you want actual respect from people who are into mma then you’re going to have to face the music and stop slacking in that area.

    No problem bjjdenver!

The best female MMA class in the world is 135. But EliteXC created the 140 class just for her and twice now she has not made it. I fault EliteXC/Gary Shaw as much as I fault Gina. It was hoped that females like Shayna Baysler and more importantly Tara LaRosa would be willing to come up to 140 for the chance at the larger Carano. Look at most of all Gina’s past opponents. All except one competes in the 135 class. Even Kaitlin Young is normally a 135lber.

What an embarrassment. Can’t even make weight for a weight class specifically made for her. Shows a complete lack of respect for the sport and her opponent.

Elite XC needs to stop making classes for people. The Nick Diaz Needs To Be Our Champ weight class didnt work out for them either.

To clarify the misprint on the results, I made the change quite a while ago, and for some reason, the publisher site we use didn’t make the changes. My apologies. Carano DID NOT make weight. Apparently, the folks with Pro Elite knew ahead of time that she wasn’t going to, but as I outlined in the article, she’s giving up 12.5% of her purse because of it. Again, my apologies, enjoy the fights.

Between Kimbo’s no MMA experience and Gina not making weight this MMA debut on national television is turning out to be a real joke. She needs to respect the game or make that joke called the American Gladiator her only perfession.

Beating the dead horse some more…

Judging by the pictures, Gina is obviously fit, but looks as though she could spare the 3.5 pounds with little problem.

It just seems like she doesn’t care about conforming to the “rules” of mma, when she knows they will just be bent for her.

  18. JollyDV says:

This is probably a dumb question, but here goes… Why doesn’t Gina just fight at 145lbs? A ton of reasons are going through my mind: fewer opponents available? Embarrassed to weigh that much? because she knows she is so much heavier pre-weigh in that she will have an edge? I know nothing about making weight but as a woman, my opinion is that she start a month out to cut the weight and stop eating all the goodies in the “green room” on the set of Gladiators. Since this is the second time she didn’t make weight, and she is only giving up 12.5%, what will they do next time? Seems to me, whatever your passion in life, or in some cases bread and butter, you give it your all to excel and achieve the end result desired. Part of “your all” is sacrifice and commitment. Gina appears to be lacking in that department.
