Regarding Young, perhaps you missed her yelling NO at the doctor. Or perhaps you’d take her more seriously if she had gotten on the mic and bitched about it? She said later that she thought it was stopped mainly because they didn’t want a girl looking too beat up on their broadcast (also why she thinks she wasn’t invited to the post-press meeting)

As for Young, I was thinking that they needed to end that fight because she was taking such a beating. I was not surprised when they stopped the fight. I don’t recall Young getting all worked up about. I think she knew she was beat at that point. All this talk about whether she thanked them or not is irrelvant.

It’s amazing how some people are so invested in authority that they refuse to admit that a ring official can make mistakes.

Because it doesn’t look like they were just looking out for the interest of the fighters. It was extremely shady. I don’t think the commission was working for CBS or EliteXC or anything but I do think CBS officials touched base with the commission and basically told them to be more cautious than usual. It’s pretty clear they stopped the fights as soon as they got ugly. If Scott Smith said he couldn’t see, why was he so upset and saying “No!” as they waved it off. Watch the fight, you can clearly see him say he is ok. It even looks like they are starting again. Next thing you know they are stopping it Smith says “No!” and starts pleading with them not to stop it. Could this have anything to do with the show running long? I hope not but it just seems so damn crazy. Eye pokes happen all the time, they give the fighter his time then start again. This was a damn 5 round championship fight. The show was slotted for two hours and even with no fights going the distance they came in at almost 3. They really need to do a better job with the pacing. Oh, and the exact same thing happened Sunday night during the Faber vs Pulver fight. That one didn’t get stopped………

Carano’s mouth was wide open and she wasn’t even in a MT stance anymore – she was close to completely gassed and walking flat-footed at the end of the round – next round anything could have happened – she knows it too, hence her apology about her conditioning after the fight.

Young was robbed of what? taking a further beating in a fight she had only a microscopic chance of winning? It was the right call.

The odds of her suffering further more serious damage, were far higher than the odds of her landing a huge KO punch when she had been ineffective in the fight. She wasn’t fighting back, wasn’t defending herself, just standing there taking big shots from a bigger fighter.

The fan in me wants to side with you, if it had been even a remotely close contest, but I just keep going back to the stoppage being the best option.
