@#36 I am confused as to what the middle portion of your post means. but I think you are trying to say that you think its ignorant to say someone is a total hottie or has nice boobs are that you'd boink her if you had the chance. I don't think that's ignorant. Crass, sure, tactlessly honest, sure, but ignorant? nah. we're men, we're hardwired to think like that.

And besides, this is the internet. It's not like these people are stopping her on the street to tell her THEY WOULD HAVE SEX WITH HER. people say things on the internet about a celebrity that they wouldn't say to that celebrity in person all the time.

There is a difference between compliments and an ignorant comment. Don't get me wrong, I am thinking pretty much all the above comments posted, but none of them are compliments. (you know which ones I'm referring to)

I think it's inconsistent to advocate for women's MMA on the basis of equality and respect and then talk about them like they're hoochie dancers in shorty shorts. Maybe it's a cultural thing, but those kinds of remarks aren't considered respectful in my neighborhood. All that having been said, people can say what they like on the subject and it makes no difference to me. I just see a disconnect there and made the observation.

You understand neither the logic nor the statement. Put up a post questioning women's MMA--not as talented or capable as their male counterparts-- and you'll be labelled ignorant or sexist. Put up a post talking about the size of Carano's breasts, or stating that you want to have sex with her--see above--and nobody suggests that's ignorant or sexist. I find that incongruous.

@#25 Mike Wolfe:
I find it fascinating that sexual innuendos or even graphic comments on Carano’s looks get no reaction, but if you criticize women’s MMA, people get all pissy. There’s some twisted PC logic behind this that I haven’t worked out yet.

I'm still trying to understand the logic behind what you just said. Are you attempting to say that a person cant a) be attracted to a fighter and b) appreciate the skill and technique of that fighter despite the fact that they are a woman? I mean, by your logic, no female (or gay dude I suppose) could ever both think a fighter is hot, and also appreciate that he is a badass.

I think your problem is that your all hung up on feminism. You don't have to be a bitchy feminist (or unattracted to chicks) to think women should be able to try any sport they want to.

http://www.fightergirls.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=2585&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=135

From Kaitlin:
My left cheek and area surrounding the eye are looking pretty ugly today, but there was no major damage. Though it may have looked like it on tv, I never actually had an open wound.

What you didn't see was that the doctor actually cleared me to fight the third round but the commission said "no". I wanted to continue, my corner wanted to continue. The cut likely would have opened in the third but it was under the eye. If I had to guess, I would say that they didn't want the visual of a woman with a bloody face on CBS.

They also chose not to do a post fight interview with me or to include me in the post fight news conference and after party. I think the reason for that was my beat up appearance after the fight because I was not seriously injured and was completely coherent.

I am very disappointed about that but cant help but wonder how people would have responded to that, as stupid as it is.

Jonathan, regarding walking out the door, I think she just made the standard mistake a lot of fighters make of thinking she was heading to her corner when she wasn't. It can be disorienting getting the crap beat out of you :) I was pretty sure her I heard her screaming NO! NO! when the doctor was telling her the fight would be stopped.

@#22: Well, I'm no doctor bjjdenver, but she didn't look a any worse than countless other male fighters I've seen. I mean, it's a fight, getting hurt is something to be expected. I've never seen a fight stopped over suspicion of a broken orbital bone, either, and for that matter, I don't remember hearing anyone during the fight or commentary say they thought her one of her orbital bones was broken... you're the only person I've heard say that.

Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

"none of those are reasons to stop a fight. imagine if they stopped every fight over a bruised and a non-bleeding cut, or because she was “getting dominated”? stoppages are supposed to happen when a fighter can’t defend themselves and although she was losing the fight, she definitely could have continued to defend herself.

of course, it was just one of several bad stoppages and it wasn’t the worst one so…"

I also disagree with you Hex, but for a different reason. I think the fight was clearly over. When I watched the fight back on DVR, I thought Kaitlin actually tapped out when she took her hand off of Gina's arm. I was even more convinced of this when I noticed that after being seperated, she didn't go to her corner, Ms Young went for the door to leave the ring as was re-directed by the ref. If the fight was not stopped, I don't believe Katie would have answered the bell for the 3rd round. IMO, she was done.

You know, the only difference between the sexist comments the guys make on any Gina Carano post and the comments my grilfriend makes about how cute (INSERT MMA FIGHTER WITH BETTER ABS THAN ME (WHICH IS PRETTY MUCH ALL OF THEM (EXCEPT MAYBE TANK)) HERE) is, is we're just a little nerdier and post it on the web...

Hex, i brought it up because it was the most recent, high profile example.

In the doctors opinion, there is no difference in boxing or mma.

We aren't talking about how it was scored, but how it was a medical stoppage.

Any sane person (with that responsibility on their shoulders), let alone a medical doctor, would stop a lopsided fight with evidence of a serious injury. They don't have an x-ray machine at cage-side, so they can only assume the worst. Letting that fight continue would have been pointless and irresponsible. Her eye was in very bad shape and had obvious signs of a fractured orbital. err on the side of fighter safety and let her career continue.

All fighters take a risk when they enter the fight, and most have a spirit that makes them want to continue, despite any injury they may have. that is why the ref and doctor have the power to stop the fight and preserve the fighter's best interest.

oops, hit submit by accident a little early. the conditions for a win or a stoppage are different in boxing and MMA. im confused as to why you'd bring that up, would you like to discuss the wrestling point system as well? ;)

The fight was over. It was not ended prematurely, it was finished. There was a moment at the end of the 2nd that it honestly looked to be like Young tapped. I was even more convinced of that when she went for the door rather than back to her corner when the round was over. The ref had to direct her to stay in the ring. If the Docs didn't stop it, Young would not have answered the bell.

"You can’t have a true competition and stop matches when it looks lopsided"

Fights get stopped commonly for that exact reason.

Take Cotto/Gomez recently as an example. While not seriously injured, he was getting dominated by Cotto and finally, they had seen enough and stopped the fight.
