You understand neither the logic nor the statement. Put up a post questioning women’s MMA–not as talented or capable as their male counterparts– and you’ll be labelled ignorant or sexist. Put up a post talking about the size of Carano’s breasts, or stating that you want to have sex with her–see above–and nobody suggests that’s ignorant or sexist. I find that incongruous.

I’m still trying to understand the logic behind what you just said. Are you attempting to say that a person cant a) be attracted to a fighter and b) appreciate the skill and technique of that fighter despite the fact that they are a woman? I mean, by your logic, no female (or gay dude I suppose) could ever both think a fighter is hot, and also appreciate that he is a badass.

I think your problem is that your all hung up on feminism. You don’t have to be a bitchy feminist (or unattracted to chicks) to think women should be able to try any sport they want to.

What you didn’t see was that the doctor actually cleared me to fight the third round but the commission said “no”. I wanted to continue, my corner wanted to continue. The cut likely would have opened in the third but it was under the eye. If I had to guess, I would say that they didn’t want the visual of a woman with a bloody face on CBS.

They also chose not to do a post fight interview with me or to include me in the post fight news conference and after party. I think the reason for that was my beat up appearance after the fight because I was not seriously injured and was completely coherent.

I am very disappointed about that but cant help but wonder how people would have responded to that, as stupid as it is.

@#22: Well, I’m no doctor bjjdenver, but she didn’t look a any worse than countless other male fighters I’ve seen. I mean, it’s a fight, getting hurt is something to be expected. I’ve never seen a fight stopped over suspicion of a broken orbital bone, either, and for that matter, I don’t remember hearing anyone during the fight or commentary say they thought her one of her orbital bones was broken… you’re the only person I’ve heard say that.

I also disagree with you Hex, but for a different reason. I think the fight was clearly over. When I watched the fight back on DVR, I thought Kaitlin actually tapped out when she took her hand off of Gina’s arm. I was even more convinced of this when I noticed that after being seperated, she didn’t go to her corner, Ms Young went for the door to leave the ring as was re-directed by the ref. If the fight was not stopped, I don’t believe Katie would have answered the bell for the 3rd round. IMO, she was done.

In the doctors opinion, there is no difference in boxing or mma.

We aren’t talking about how it was scored, but how it was a medical stoppage.

Any sane person (with that responsibility on their shoulders), let alone a medical doctor, would stop a lopsided fight with evidence of a serious injury. They don’t have an x-ray machine at cage-side, so they can only assume the worst. Letting that fight continue would have been pointless and irresponsible. Her eye was in very bad shape and had obvious signs of a fractured orbital. err on the side of fighter safety and let her career continue.

All fighters take a risk when they enter the fight, and most have a spirit that makes them want to continue, despite any injury they may have. that is why the ref and doctor have the power to stop the fight and preserve the fighter’s best interest.

Fights get stopped commonly for that exact reason.

Take Cotto/Gomez recently as an example. While not seriously injured, he was getting dominated by Cotto and finally, they had seen enough and stopped the fight.
