Rumor Killer: Brett Rogers not released by EliteXC
Rumors have been running rampant on highly-trafficked message boards during the last 24 hours claiming that EliteXC heavyweight Brett Rogers has been released by the promotion.
FiveOuncesOfPain.com elected to followup on the unsubstantiated rumors and contacted Mike Reilly, Rogers’ trainer at Team Bison in Minnesota.
When asked about the rumor, Reilly categorically denied it and expressly stated that Rogers is still under contract to EliteXC.

There’s no way EliteXC would cut Rogers now, especially after all the press about his altercation with Kimbo. If they did get rid of him, Gary Shaw would never live down the general impression that he is protecting Kimbo.

Not that I’m saying EliteXC should cut Rogers. Why would they? Internet rumors come out of the strangest places sometimes…

I’d say word from Roger’s trainer is damn close enough, wouldn’t you?

One of the parties directly involved would be snazzy.

I think this rumor stems from Rogers actually claiming that Kimbo tapped in the first round of his fight with Thompson. Considering what was seen as, at best, preferencial treatment of Kimbo, it might easily be surmised that Shaw would not want Rogers to fight him. The only way out? To have Rogers suddenly no longer on the roster.
I agree it would be way to obvious, but anything is possible with Shaw and the Elitexc.
I think Rogers looked pretty sloppy in his KO of his opponent. But he does have a punch that could probably floor Kimbo if it connects. How can we keep Kimbo alive for another 10 fights? Probably not by having him fight Rogers, that’s for sure.

In an interview earlier today with RearNakedRadio Rogers expressed no problem with his Elite XC deal and looked forward to his next fight with the organization. When I asked if he wanted to “call out” Kimbo a second time he became anxious and more measured saying, ” I really dont want to get into all that, Kimbo is a tuff guy and I want to fight the best”. It was my impression that he had been told to tone the rhetoric down.
